Derek Report 4 Jun 2011 09:54

It seems that overnight my "Who are we looking for in Derbyshire " Thread has been zapped. destroyed hijacked. or whatever.after nearly 2000 separate pieces of hard work and research for many people..........How can this happen?? and is there no protection against it..or is it deliberate???
It is INFURIATING!!!...particularly as its not the first time!!!

Derek (Derbyshire)

KempinaPartyhat Report 4 Jun 2011 10:05

Ask Genes where it is they may be able to find it !!

Derek Report 4 Jun 2011 10:09

You ask GR..and you get a bland meaningless reply, if you get a reply at all..I just do not understand how it can happen....unless the Thread is deleted deliberately.....abd i didn't think it was possible for anybody except the owner of the Thread to delete..and I certainly haven't done it!! never get any answers!!

TootyFruity Report 4 Jun 2011 10:28

Derek, that's a body blow because everyone knows how helpful your thread has been to those researching Derbyshire.

I cannot see why anyone would have reported it, unless of course it was done along with Ginny's and JC posts the other day both of which have been reinstated.

So give the Genes Team a chance, things seem to have changed for the better around here and you may be lucky.

philmoir Advisor Report 4 Jun 2011 11:12

Hi Derek, As TootyFruity mentioned please contact Customer Support. Be aware that if someone flags the Report as Abuse - which really should just be "report" as it can mean duplicate, wrong board, etc. - but if it is flagged then we have to check it (regardless of whether or not there is any abuse), and this is done as quickly as possible. If there is nothing wrong with it, then we will reinstate it (and based on the supporting comments it seems like you're doing a great job helping those looking in Derbyshire). Thanks Phil

PS I'm not working today - I'm meant to be cleaning the house before the family get back! but just wanted to reassure you :-)

Joy Kentish Maid Report 4 Jun 2011 11:21

Unfortunately, it is not flagged for review; it has just disappeared :-(
I know how annoying this is for Derek as it has happened before and can empathise, to a certain extent, from when threads of mine disappeared; the support team could not find them and suggested they were posted again.
I hope, Derek, that the support team can find the thread this time.

KempinaPartyhat Report 4 Jun 2011 11:50

Prehaps if you hadnt been so rude I would have asked but as I have no idea what thread you were talking about I CANT,,.....

But as Philmoir said worth an ask.....

And like I say to my kids dont ask dont want and wont get

jax Report 4 Jun 2011 12:14

Who was rude?

Thelma Report 4 Jun 2011 13:35

There is this one.

Derbyshire Parish Records Derek 4 Jun 2011 07:00 by Tracey 1,713 1,100

Margee Report 4 Jun 2011 13:52

Surely the thread is still there, Derek? I was just looking at it.

Rambling Rose

Rambling Rose Report 4 Jun 2011 14:22

that's this one, but perhaps Derek had another?

AnninGlos Report 4 Jun 2011 17:16

Is it perhaps on a different board to where you thought it was Derek.

It is on the find ancestors board

jax Report 4 Jun 2011 17:22

When I did the advanced search I saw Derek mention one called "Who are you looking for in Derbyshire" perhaps thats the one that is missing.?

Yep thats the one Derek mentions in his OP :-)

AnninGlos Report 4 Jun 2011 22:20

Yes Jax, you're right, that one does seem to have disappeared.

Derek Report 4 Jun 2011 22:56

Thanks your best...there are a great many people hanging on your efforts.

Derek Report 4 Jun 2011 23:05

Thanks everybody..just to explain things......on the Recently deceased Records Office Board I had my "Derbyshire Records Office"..and everybody appears to love it...........about a year or so ago it went ZAP........completo explanation..and thanks to all you lovely people the regenerated on the "Find Ancestors" Board..has again reached 1700 the meantime on the old "TIPS" Boards i started a "Who are we looking for in Derbyshire" Thread.........this is is the thats gone to Heaven or hell or wherever....with 1900 plus hits....
I can always re-start it from scratch..but there was a huge ream of work on it that has now gone....probably forever..unless Phil..who kindly contacted me on here, can do something about it.

In any case..thanks to you all xxx.Has anyone ever known me to be rude or abusive??

Derek Report 4 Jun 2011 23:10

Kempina..I think you misread my reply to rudeness at all intended...Idiomatically it is correct..but probably better grammatically if I'd put " front of "you ask"....................there was no suggestion that YOU ask..............

AnninGlos Report 5 Jun 2011 16:59

Ah I see where Kemp is coming from now, I couldn't work out how you had been rude. Kemp appears to have misunderstood what you said.

Derek Report 6 Jun 2011 13:08

Good morning all..I have had a reply from GR Support..saying that they did not remove my Thread..have sent them back an email in which I have suggested that since so many Threads do disappear into thin air, that "We were not responsible....." is not an answer.
There has to be some physical act that removes these Threads,,and GR would do well to investigate the actual process by which deletion occurs..I know we can delete our own Threads..but not by mistake,,,(unless you're a compete idiot)..but as far as I'm aware it cannot be done by other people either as a mistake or for some weird deliberate act of vandalism.
I'm making a major issue of it because GR should be making sure it doesn't happen..

end of rant!!

"I'm making a major issue of it because GR should be making sure it doesn't happen.." - good.
There has to be a way for genes reunited staff to find it.
