It would be good to read a response from genes reunited.

IGP
You stated

Quote
"As I have said, many members on here regularly break the rule regarding the posting of 3rd party urls "

Now, after this, could you not have also put "including myself"
as, for example, just 2 days ago

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/genealogy_chat/thread/1277214?page=1

GB did not criticise the member who put their e-mail address on the post, she was trying to HELP and PROTECT them by asking them, politely, to remove it.

So IMO ,and, I can only guess, that many more will think so too (well they would if your offensive post had not been reported and then deleted !!) GB does deserves an apology from you .

So do I presume that you have never broken the T & C on this site ?

You accused me but have not offered any explanation at all

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 21 Aug 2011 20:41

Yes, I don't disagree, but it is a question of degree.

Just because someone has 'broken' a rule, it does mean that they should be banned, be reported, or have their posting removed.

As I have said, many members on here regularly break the rule regarding the posting of 3rd party urls when providing help to other members but GR, presumably, don't see this as an issue.

Rambling Report 21 Aug 2011 20:34

But isn't the point that if GR make the rules THEY at least should keep them and see to it they are kept?

Oh well

Not only was a reply to this thread marked for request review but that has now disappeared.

Obviously the poster thinks their comments were acceptable as no explanation or apology offered.

Barbara,

Thank you for your comments. Now I am wondering who did report the comments.

Joy,

Thank you calling me caring as not usually thought of like that :-)

Gai,

Got to agree with you as it would be a shame not to have Rambling Rose on the site.

Thankyou Gai, I have enjoyed helping people where and when I could, as a return for the help I was given when I started out :-D

What post was reported and what did it say? Was it offensive or has the serial reported reappeared.

I agree Joy.

GB I didn't report the post either (I never have done, not that I haven't felt like doing sometimes ) but it shows that someone else found it "offensive" too.

RR,

I think it would be a shame if you didn't renew as you are very helpful to members on the boards.

I hope you reconsider and decide to renew.

Joy, I have to agree with you about an email address on a public site and nowadays it just isn't safe to do so.

Gai

Joy Report 21 Aug 2011 08:48

It is naive to include one's email address in a public site. Any caring person, such as TurkishDelight, would ask for it to be removed.

For staff to reinstate a person's email address is :-0

GlitterBaby Report 20 Aug 2011 23:40

Before I get the blame I did not report a posting on this thread. But I wish I had done.

Certainly wish I had kept a copy but not in the habit of doing that.

BarbaraFromYorkshire

BarbaraFromYorkshire Report 20 Aug 2011 23:13

Hi GB

I saw the post last night and you did ask in a very polite manner if the poster would remove his e-mail address---to which I totaly agree.

Does the comment IGP has made mean he will have to report his own posting ?

After all in the 1st post IGP made in your thread he has included the words

"Personally, I will only report something if distasteful, offensive>>> or a personal slur on another member, <<<<< otherwise I see it as none of my business"

IMO an apology is needed from IGP to GB---there was no need at all to add the words

---You are one of them.....!

He should have left it with his first posting of----
-----
As far as compliance with the T's and C's goes - how many can put their hand on heart and say they have never broken this one?

"In particular, you agree not to use the Genes Reunited Service to provide links to third party websites. "
-------
The answer to this one is maybe none of us--including IGP

GlitterBaby Report 20 Aug 2011 21:46

Why am I one of them ?

Please explain ?

Rambling

Rambling Report 20 Aug 2011 18:17

Why not?

if one has more nous than the 'appointed' judge, jury, and excutioner ;-) since it is not a democracy we can't vote them out if we think they are not competent...though we can of course vote with our feet, as so many have already done !

Rambling

Rambling Report 20 Aug 2011 14:53

I just think one does mention it or report it, not because of any obsession with T & Cs or being 'picky' ...but because it is what one DOES instinctively...ie try to help and 'protect' people...like putting a hand out to stop someone crossing the road in front of a bus...or pointing out to the bus driver that he is abut to mow someone down!

If somebody saw me posting my email addy without having thought about any consequences I would be grateful they bothered to 'protect' me , even if it meant that my post was removed!

I'm with GB on this...and it's one of the many reasons I'm not renewing next week.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 20 Aug 2011 14:35

I will not be concerned about anything in future on this site

Let people do what they like

Break all the T & C if they want.

I frankly am past caring what members do

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 20 Aug 2011 14:13

I am inclined to agree with IGP on this one.

If someone chooses to put their email address in their post then yes, they are infringing current GR terms and conditions but of what concern is that to other members. The inclusion of the email address itself is unlikely to cause any harm to any other member so why get involved. Surely it is up to GR themselves, not its members, to take appropriate action since it is their rule that has been broken.
