When I first joined GR I rarely looked at "My Account" so I was surprised when my membership was renewed. Sent an email to GR, was told it was renewed because I had ticked "automatic renewal". I hadn't ticked it, I just hadn't UNtickeed it. So I made sure to untick the box.

The year after that I got an email from GR to say my membership had been renewed. I sent a very angry email to them, said I had NOT ticked the automatic renewal box. I also asked how they managed to get payment, because the previously used credit card had been cancelled. I had NOT ticked the renewal box, and was very angry that the GRemlins seemed to have done so.

I checked, and the payment had not gone through. So I paid for another year, using my new credit card. Then I checked My Account...... and the "automical renewal" had been ticked again! Yet another angry email was sent. Got a response to that one. It seems they "had no idea" the system did that. Yeah right. I believe that.

I check My Account often, make sure the automatic renewal is OFF!!!

When I first joined Genes in June 2008 I turned on the auto renew function so that I wouldn't have to think about it and not once has it worked!

Each time I have had the email from GR stating that my renewal is due and they will use the same card I used the last time. Then I get the email advising that my card number must have changed etc. etc. etc. when for at least 3 of the years there was no change at all.

I was glad that it didn't work last week because when I received their email again advising that my card did not work I was able to down grade to standard membership - that's all I need for access to the boards.

The rest I can get elsewhere.

Ive lost count of how many times Ive asked ' I want to print my WHOLE tree, not just a part of it. I dont care how many sheets of A4 paper it uses. BesidesI have a poster size printer available so can update whenever I like. I too like a large printout on the wall for quick references AND as a talking point. Im informed GR are aware of the problem and are working on it. Poor show for a Platinum user!!

At the top of the page go into my account then reenter your password.

On the left hand side of the screen go into subscription details and turn off the auto renew function.

Then when you membership runs out you can rejoin as a standard member.

You will have to change to single rather than continous then you will get the option once your sub runs out...I know that what I had to do two years ago

so where do I find my options? When I go to top of my screen to where it says "subscribe" I get a box saying "subscription options" but when I click on that it only brings up the Platinum option which is what I have now but definitely don't want to be paying for in the future. I can do searches elsewhere but do appreciate the option to be able to ask GR members for help when I'm stuck.

I agree with Sylvia that the help from the boards is worth the membership.

I don't need to access any records so the standard membership works well for me and at $A15.96 for me that equals four cups of coffee in a coffee shop.

well,

they won't respond on here!!

GR staff very rarely post .............. and if they do, they will tell you to contact support!

BUT ........ what membership do you have??

Is it Standard or a higher level??

Do you need access to the records on here??

You can continue to build your tree even if you drop down to Free membership ...... which happens automatically if you do not pay the sub.

You will NOT, however, be able to access these community boards, chat to your friends, or get help

I happen to think that the help on the Boards is well worth the money :-D

and the contact with friends on General Chat is priceless :-D :-D :-D

I've had a message today to say that my membership is due for renewal.
Since October I have been reporting problems with printing a tree (along with other members)
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/genealogy_chat/thread/1283529
and despite GR asking us all to be patient, it still doesn't work. They took no notice of my message which said that I'd already tried using Google Chrome & Firefox - just suggested that I try those methods.
I do find it easier to have a large paper version to refer to rather than flipping between screens when trying to see relationships.
Given that this problem has still not been rectified, and all the other problems that members are reporting, can GR tell me why I should cough up £49.95 next month?
