Oh dear my OP has been RRd for the third time,

wisechild

wisechild Report 18 Dec 2012 14:08

It´s certainly very good news that GR have taken some action at last. We´ve been complaining about it for long enough.
I would like to know though how they are going to prevent this person taking out another account in a different name & starting all over again.
It´s happened before.

Sue

That is the best news I have heard all day :-D.

Maybe we can all get back to doing what this site was intended for .....doing Genealogy.

Well done Genes for finally taking a stand on this very annoying problem that is ruining this site.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE :-D :-D :-D.

Sue, my OP has been reinstated again and the person responsible will be removed from GR.

As to who, I don't care as long as they can't RR my posts within 30 nanoseconds of me putting them up :-D

Sue

Just read through that thread....so many reports :-S....I don't think I have seen a thread with so many

I have always thought I had a good idea who is responsible for RRing threads but never sure... now I am completely in the dark :-|

Unfortunatly only Genes can stop it all now if they want to that is ;-)

Sue

I see your OP is back again ..obviously Genes can see nothing wrong with it,they keep putting it back up.

Come on Genes now is the time to set an example and ban this person for excessive reporting :-S

jax Report 18 Dec 2012 01:04

No one would need to know who a moderator was though...unless they announced it of course.

When I was one on a chat board I just had two log in names one for moderating and one when I was being a normal person ( well as normal as I could be) :-D

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 18 Dec 2012 00:27

The suggestion that members were asked to moderate in exchange for free access to records (or something similar) was raised at the consultation sessions in London earlier this year.

After the resounding unpopularity the Help Board, most active posters would look at member moderators with great distrust.

Sue - sorry to see your thread disappear again.

My reinstated OP has been RRd AGAIN!

Please GR sort out this vindictive reporting.

It's good news that your posts have been reinstated dangersprout, and good to have a nice response from the team.

supercrutch Report 17 Dec 2012 14:54

Ken, It asked for suggestions as you said because some people don't look at this board.

I had some of my posts reinstated this morning and a nice response from GR confirming what we all thought was the reason for the RRs.

If this member continues to abuse the RR button I do hope that they are removed from the site but as we all know that isn't necessarily an end to the vendetta because:

a) multiple accounts
b) new bogus account
c) ask a friend or friends to RR

It's not just the OP being RR'd it's trawling through responses and reporting those too!

I do hope some resolution can be formed and implemented which is approved by the majority of members.

Kense Report 17 Dec 2012 11:12

I have just seen last night's developments on this thread (which I think initially referred to this one).

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/general_chat/thread/1315903

Rollo's comments in particular make interesting points.

It would be a shame if that thread is dumped because of the RR on the OP.

Kense

Kense Report 17 Dec 2012 10:49

That might work but even if GR ciuld trust them I am not sure the board members would agree.

I am reminded of the furore caused when they appointed helpers for the help desk a couple of years ago.

TheBlackKnight

TheBlackKnight Report 17 Dec 2012 10:30

If GR was say to a 3, 6 or even 9 people they felt they could trust, they would give a yearly free platinium membership with full help & support plus all lookups free for each year they do moderating, I think some level headed members would not mind being a moderator. If you had 9 people doing it, they would not have to do it every day.

Susan Report 17 Dec 2012 10:08

This problem is raising its head all to often and a few months back I did ask Genes about it and this was there response.

Thanks for your email

If a member is unnecessarily reporting posts we do monitor this. Anyone who is deliberately disrupting the boards by reporting posts unnecessarily is only putting their own registration at risk

Kind Regards,

Alex S
Genes Reunited Support Team

I am afraid there are a few members who get a kick out of reporting threads ...god only knows why.

Maybe it makes them feel better about themselves,I don;t think Genes will do anything about it ,they don't listen to their members at all about anything :-|

Suex :-S

Kense

Kense Report 17 Dec 2012 08:57

The trouble with a full time monitoring team is cost. It would require at least three people to cover the whole day. Even if they had other duties it would cost many thousands of pounds per year but the number of members using the boards is only a few hundred

You don't have to be an expert in math to see that either the subscription would have to go up for everyone which would be unfair on non messageboard users, or some extra charge for using messageboards would need to be introduced which i think would kill the boards.

TheBlackKnight

TheBlackKnight Report 17 Dec 2012 01:13

Lots of postings have been RRd over the weekend & still remain as RRd, so the promise of this never happening again means nothing.

The promise of a seven day a week service is clearly not happening so means nothing.

Some members still get notified while others don’t so the promise of that not happening again means nothing.

Consistency will be a huge improvement!! Well here we are just one week on from that being said & things don't look very good on that one either.

All this & more has been going on for far too long now. Many members have come up with some very good ideas how things can be made better but are ignored. When will GR actually help its paying members & stop the RRing, bullying & abuse that goes on, on a regular basis on GR? The only reason GR’s membership is so high is because a lot of members have 3 & in some cases more accounts to use, some use them just to cause trouble. GR know who they are as they have all the details needed, even if they make that info up GR can just look at the IP address.

The site needs a new moderating team 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Paying members have asked for this for years now so how about it?

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 16 Dec 2012 21:42

Very true. I have contacted GR and asked a few questions.
