IT'S HERE!!

Firstly, no question it is the right person. His wife registered the death so so particular surprises there. I have found a couple of people on Friends who lived in the same street so have contacted them to see if they have any info. Fingers crossing yet again!
Might also ask for an electoral register lookup as she would be about 70 now so a good chance she is still alive.
Thanks for hanging on in there folks!

Oooh Madmeg!

Surely if the aunt is aged around 85 you wouldn't start the letter with "Hiya", would you?

I'd have thought that a rather more formal "Dear Mary" would have been better for someone of that generation. (;-) ... also, why not say "mother" rather than "Mam"?

... sorry, I'm in 'edit mode' today...

Have you ever posted on here Simon? Is this your concern? People are offering me encouragement so the less criticism the better thanks.

Hi Jan

If I were your relative I would be so happy to hear from you. Give it a go , you have nothing to lose, and both of you have a lot to gain. All the best of luck. Caroline

Quite right, Simon, a daft opening from me. And mother maybe. I think Jan knows me well enough to realise I was only giving a suggested tone to use, i.e. friendly and non-threatening or suspicious.

Don't shout at him Jan. I'm sure he meant well.

I think I might send for the only other document left to me - the death cert of her brother in 1995. Then I shall have exhausted all possibilities!
Good to know people are still there. feels less daunting!
