As his name wasn't changed, he wasn't adopted..................the details of who brought him up may simply never be known.

He clearly didn't wish to share the info..................perhaps you need to respect that. There are some things we have to accept we will never know................

because he was born out of wedlock and the address on his d.o.b. and his mother name was not registered at that address I no if she was under 21 she would not be on there but he told my mum he was brought up by is aunties and because I do not have her d.o.b and I can only guess her d.o.b. I am very much in the dark as to where and who brought him up in his younger years he was very close lipped as to his up bringing and did not say anything to mum much about it before he died.

because I was five when he died I would like to no more about him.

regards sue

No there isn't.....but the birth reg on freebmd should indicate if an adoption took place.......assuming it was legal.

BUT..........if this man is your father, and you know him by his birth name, why do you raise the issue of adoption?

So who was living at the address the year that your father was born please?

Winifred may have stayed with a relative just for the period around the time of your father's birth. Have you done any research on the people at the address please?

Any comments on the deaths of the Shaws found for you please?

There are no other Shaw/Meredith births for Pontefract, but they might have moved?

Too many Vera Shaw marriages to know which might be her, but this is one in the right area...you can look for others on Freebmd..it is easy to use.

Jane is a widow by 1901, so you would need to look on Freebmd for a death for Gideon between those two dates.
