MGNV, I have a Scottish one where the child was born to a widow. The child is registered with the mother's maiden surname i.e. he was named James Wood and his mother is recorded as Marion Fulton maiden surname Wood, widow.

My cousin´s half sisters were given his father´s surname after their mother divorced my cousin´s father because they were born before she re married to their father & therefore she was still officially known by her 1st married name.
