Hello
I recently found the following in the Glasgow Herald newspaper dated 18/5/1898 but for the life of me can find no more=so any help would be much appreciated
this is my husbands grandma
ALLEDGED CHILD STEALING
Thomas Welsh a Glasgow man living at 9 Stirling St ,Glasgow aged 32,was remitted to the Sheriff from the central police court, charged with having stolen Bridget King,5 years of age, daughter of Hugh King of 251 High St Glasgow whilst out for a walk in the custody of a woman neighbour last Wednesday, heis description was circulated, last Sunday, and he was traced to Paisley, where he had lodged and thence to Johnstone where he was arrested with the child on Monday
Unfortunately Gladstone died 2 days later and the papers were full of this report and I cannot find anything of what happened to Thomas i.e any conviction :-S :-S :-S

I would keep an open mind about'where' in Scotland he says he was born - my criminals vary from census to census to record to record - even swar surnames at various times when it suits them!
