Avril Report 2 Aug 2005 21:23

Hi Jess, I would be ever so grateful if you have the time to look up on the 1891 census to see if my great grandmother hetty had further brothers and sisters after her younger twin sisters were born (Ellen and Emma) in 1880. My g-grandmother was registered as Etty Burroughs, but known as Hetty (which I believe is the correct spelling). Hetty was born in Portsea, Portsmouth in 1878, her mother and father being William Frederick and Clara Louisa. There are rumours of a further set of twin girls but i can find no evidence of this. Thank you very much Avril

Hello Jess In 1871 William's daughter Harriet was born in Shelfanger (in the earlier census they said Diss, they are not very far apart when I have looked on the map,so it could be the same girl. His wife was called Victoria E vincent in1871 and Elizabeth in 1881 (perhaps Elizabeth could have been her middle name, as I know he did not remarry ).Because of the shoemaker connection also I am sure you have found the right family Jess. Thank you once again. You are brilliant.

Angela - how far out is the 1871 family i have found?

Angela

Angela Report 2 Aug 2005 19:03

Thanks for looking up William Vincent ( shoemaker )for me. The details are definitely correct for the 1881 census, he did have a daughter called Harriett. It sounds like it is most likely them in the 1871 census but the information does not fit exactly between the two censuses. Thanks Angela

There you go, Daphne Hannah Jones abt 1792 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Mother English Bicknor Gloucestershire Mary Jones abt 1830 English Bicknor, Gloucestershire, England Head English Bicknor Gloucestershire Sarah Jones abt 1833 English Bicknor, Gloucestershire, England Sister English Bicknor Gloucestershire 'The Travellers Rest' Mary appears to be the beer house keeper. Her mother in a 'annuitant' so presumably has an income c/o her late husband, or maybe she owns property? It means she has an income that she doesn't have to 'work for' as such , I think.

Pamela- I had looked ay 1881 and discounted all the entries Mary Fittis abt 1847 Morpeth, Northumberland, England Mother Greencroft, Durham, England <too Old Mary Fittis abt 1881 Workington, Cumberland, England Niece Greencroft, Durham, England <a neice (so not parents) Mary A. Fittis abt 1862 Bourn, Lincoln, England Servant Vicarage, Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England <ditto Above but servant Mary Ann Fittis abt 1852 Appledore, Devon, England Wife 30 Bower Lane Queens Own Coffee Tavern, Maidstone, Kent, England <Born Devon Mary Sarah Fittis abt 1875 Heworth, Durham, England Daughter Squires Arms Public House, Heworth, Durham, England <Mary Sarah ------------------------------------------------------------- Of course she will not appear in 1871, and by 1901 will be married. Not very helpfully Both the women on the marriage page were called Mary, so which ever of the men i find in census will have a wife Mary, so that will not help. birth cert has to be the way to go Sorry

dylan Report 31 Jul 2005 16:46

hi jess thanks for doing the look ups. i was hoping that if you were able to find mary jane in the 1881 census, that that would have detailed her parents and siblings names. if you could continue searching for her in the 1881 or later censuses then that would be great. thanks for all that you have done so far. pam

Hi Jess, Many thanks for your generous look-up offer. If you have the time could you possibly look-up the following please: re Betsy Stirrup. 1871 Census 17 Mill Street, Much Woolton, Lancs Betsy Stirrup Head Widow 72 Washerwoman,Farnworth, Lancs Henry son S 32 Joiner Much Woolton, Lancs. That is the only mention I have of her, and would like to know more if possible. I have both the 1881 & 1891 census readings for her son Henry Stirrup, but if you have anything else it would be a bonus. With grateful thanks, Jimmy
