My 'Hot Matches' are still missing. They've been gone the best part of a week now. GR keep telling me they are there, but they are not....

Tried again tonight to see if I could find what I'm looking for & I did. Updated what I needed to update & in fact quite like the new look now I'm getting use to it.

I was finally able to read all the thread today and your replies.

I have just checked my tree and it's there but some info missing.

Thanks for that Christine have just entered board name under the community section which I hadn't noticed before. Just testing now.

It would appear they are listening.

There is now a 'My Threads' option which shows all threads you have added to. I'm glad they brought it back!

I don 't know about your problem, Jo, but filling in the Community Name box (in My Account below the actual names info) solves the board-name problem from the change-moment forwards, but doesn't clear the historical problem. THAT NEEDS FIXING!

The character-limit has always been there, so far as I know - it's just explicit now. I fell foul of it when posting long lists of updates on Local BMD sites.

The My Tree Matches is hidden amongst the Search Trees options in the menu on the left. Not sure that it's called that, though... might just be My Surnames or something... I think it's the bottom one of three?

The loss of My Threads as an instant button is to be regretted. Getting around it by a specific Advanced Search isn't the same.

My internal jury is still out on the appearance. Some good, some bad... but I agree it's a bit bright on the eyes. Font size isn't a problem on Firefox or Camino.

Just testing - am unable to change any details in my Account just keeps coming up site name already taken - Help.

Have just noticed as my message has gone on that my board name is now changed to my maiden name. What are we supposed to do when you cannot change it.

I have just gone into my Account and my maiden name is sitting there which I had deleted before. I erased it but a message came back I must enter my birth name. I re-entered it and pressed save and a message came up "That site name is already taken - please choose another". How the hell can I choose another birth name.

Sure the gaps are a bit annoying and i would love the reply box to be bigger - but this is clearly not "Shoddy goods" - it does exactly what it says on the tin.

I for one are delighted with the change and hope there will be many more,

Genes has for some time been way behind Ancestry (and still have a VERY long way to go) - but recent changes to Trees, and the general layout have been excellent (and have not gone far enough to my mind).

With the number of negative reponses to the new layout, you have to consider what we are paying for, when I signed up it was the old old layout and it worked for me. Now they have changed it, doesn't that mean it is a variation to my contract with GR, as with any contract the client (me) has to agree to the variation. As with anything you can make improvements, but alas this isn't one, this is a major change. GR listen to your clients, else they will go elsewhere. If you get shoddy goods and service at one shop you don't go back, you shop at a rival instead !!!!!!!!!!!! BE WARNED

Its certainly going to take some getting used to!


On the positive side it does look like you can now format your intial query into nice paragraphs.

Genes, you have a typo in the "sort by" option - Oldest first or Newst first.

Oh dear, not sure I Iike this new look genes ! However, I've never been a one for change....I'm sure we'll all get used to it (eventually!)

There is too much space between each thread on tips/records etc.

And not enough space in "reply Text" box.You cant see what you have just written without scrolling up & down.

Bring back "view my threads"

I notice that on Sucess stories you put all information written but on the ones that really count ,Records , Tips & Trying to find, you have only the heading & a few words.

Before the changes on "Trying to Find" it was much easier to see at a glance information each person had submitted .Now for example,looking at the Surname Bates,you see

Topic Trying to find Bates
(then it has about 7 words about this )

Then after a big gap....
Topic Trying to find Bates
(another persons information,again about 7 words)

The way you have it now ,you need to click on each one indivually to see who they are researching.

Dear Genes,

Adjusting "Text too large" or"Text too small" does not overcome the problem caused by headings and text being in different sized fonts on forum topics page!!

Adjusting text size and brightness for genes site means that all other sites are difficult to view - would it not be better for everyone if genes conformed to standards used by other sites?

Current white screen/heading text size is much too "in your face" - please adjust!!
