If you have time could you see if there is a Robert E Turner born 1899 Bury St Edmunds. His wife was Doris, child John, possibly others. Probably around 1930s.He would have been coming back from Africa to England. Thank you very much.

Hi Julia, I know you have been swamped with requests but I am desperately trying to find the roots of my great grandfather Robert Seller, on the census's & marriage certificate he says birth place Australia
Robert Seller DOB 1868-70 was definitely in the UK in 1890, but I would think he came over here on his own.
IMany thanks!

Hi Julia, Thank you so much for your generous offer. If it's possible could you look up between 1920 -1935

Bessie / Betsey Baker b 1866 Monmouthshire, Wales. She was a nursery maid.
In 1891 she was working in Aldershot as a nursery maid for George Barker a Major in the Royal Engineers. He was born 1850 in Cheltenham Glostershire. I can only assume she went with him and his family so she might have returned with them too.

I'm not sure when she returned but know for sure she died around 1943 in England. She had lived in England for some time prior to her death.

Many many thanks,

Lou

Hi Julia, Oh sorry silly me. Must be the Christmas tipple.

Bessie Betsey Baker went to Australia and as far as I know that's where she lived untill her return. My Aunts used to receive parcels from an old maid in Austrlia and the same old maid returned to England.

BUT if you can't find her returning from Australia would you be able to look up America, in case she went there from Australia as I know we did have connection with America too.

Apologies for not give you the full info, probably one tipple too many hic oops.

Thanks again,
Regards, Lou

Hi Lou
I know that feeling!!!

This is the only Bessie that fits year of birth

Name: Bessie Baker
Birth Date: abt 1864
Age: 65
Port of Departure: Durban, South Africa
Arrival Date: 1 Jul 1929
Port of Arrival: Southampton, England
Ports of Voyage: Cape Town, East London, Madeira, Algoa Bay.
Ship Name: Balmoral Castle
Shipping Line: The Union Castle Mail Steamship Company
Official Number: 129074
Occupation Housewife

Probably not the right one.

Have checked George Barker, no success.
What were his wife and children called, any idea?
Bear in mind that these are commercial records, as George was in the Royal Engineers, they may have travelled on Army transport.

Happy New Year
