hey erin, checked the census as suggested. Brill news. nicholas was born in Mayo - Galway - Ireland

AND there is a slight name change McEvady! seems the E changed to an A!

Paul...That's grand news...!! Check 1861 just to make sure the family is not listed...
Have checked the 1911 census for the Co.Mayo and only 1 Macavady/McAvady..Bridget aged 57yrs.single farmer. living Cloonliffin Ballinrobe....
The 1911 Census is free to search...
You may recall there was only Tommy listed on the 1901...

Hi erin, checked the 1861 census and no Mcavadys exist. Also checked the name McEvady. No hits either. Im unsure as to how/where to look for irish records, any advice is welcomed. Good news on the griffiths valuation info......very interesting

couldnt find anyting on Frizzell/Frissell - Rose. Only found marriage info so far...to Nicholas

Regarding Rose Frizzell - i wanted to know her parents names, i couldnt find it on ancestry.co.uk - tried to search 1881 census and got no return info... Might have been my fingers!

Wanted her parents details - DOB - DOD & locations...

Trying to get an education on Ireland att he moment. hav efound over 100+ Mcavadys incl name variations for Co Mayo. Not the best so i will have to have a think on how to go about it...

Think i will have to send off for both death certs for Nicholas & his wife mary to see what i can learn, maybe their Wills too....

Because I dont know where either were born im unsure as to how to find their parents names...need to recharge batterys!

Paul...You now know where where Rosa's parents were living.
Nicholas and Mary's MC is a must to confirm details of their respective Fathers also the couples address at time of Marriage..Their Deaths Certs will be less informative.
Before you go searching in Ireland as I have said you need to be absolutely sure their respective families arent around Lancs. save you a lot of time and fruitless searching if they are...
Walsh is also a Co.Mayo surname ..but is found elsewhere..
Which areas exactly did you find the Mcs.In the Co.Mayo

Paul....If you look at the 1911 Census Tierney /Cummings household which shows g.daughter Annie McAvady...she is the daughter of Frank McAvady and Mary Cummings (married 1903 Oldham)..so Nicholas Snr.and Mary Walsh had had another son Francis...

No more detail on the 1851 census - just says Ireland on the actual image.

I just noticed on the 1871 census for Mary Mcavady - there are slight spelling variations. Mcavady has become mcEvady and Mary Walsh may have been a Mary WElsh as her FATHER JAMES WELSH (WALSH) was living with her at the time? I await the marriage cert.... that makes James my great great great grandfather on my mothers side..

Or perhaps it was the recorders error? who wrote down WELSH as apposed to WALSH... I think thats more likely to be the case

Paul...I can see where the confusion re Tierney (1911) has come from but this should clarify matters...

Frank McAvady married Mary Cummings 1903.
Annie McAvady was b.1904
Frank McAvady Died Dec 1904 aged 21yrs
Mary McAvady (nee Cummings) subsequently married Wm.Tierney 1908

Incidentally found an "Eva McAvady" born 1906 to Edward McAvady and Mary Schofield.
Edward was one of the sons of Nicholas and Mary Walsh...The marriage took place at St.Peters C/E (South) Oldham 1900...mmn...

I wouldnt worry to much about the variation in spellings at this stage..Welsh/Walsh
What was Mary's mothers name 1871...

Interestingly I have found a Patrick McAvady marrying an Angela Hatton 1906 West Derby...so there were McAvady's in L.Pool and there were a few in Birmingham...

Yes i was indeed aware that edward was one of the 8 children of Nicholas Snr & Mary Walsh....

the other info is interesting and perhaps i shoudl have looked wide as well as deep in order to help solve the puzzle...

I havnt managed to find Marys mothers name..well i might of earlier today (come across it) but have forgotten...its such a big family....

To re-iterate im intersted in now looking backwards from Nicholas & Mary as they are my direct ancestors. I feel i might have jumped the gun a little with the ireland connection however the 1871 census does state that Mary walsh was born in Co galway & Nicholas Mcavady born in Co Mayo....Also her father was living with them at the time...

Tried to find some death details for her father James Walsh /Welsh (her dad) but as yet unsuccessful...

Again if she was born in galway i searched around the yrs 1846-1848 & there are several Mary Walsh's across East & West galway. Found 1 froma a census a s a 14yr old girl living with her mum who was widowed, discounted immediately...other than that ive drawn a blank...

but again im racing alittle too qiuckly and of course i want to be sure as dammit! lol

maybe some info rests upon the arrival of Nich & marys wedding certificate as some of the census info is perhaps 1-3 yrs in approximation of their birth years so i cant be sure. Very sketchy.
