Well, thank goodness it didn't get too far. Bringing it here (with the info I wish we'd had to start with in this thread):

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Am looking for my Dads half sis. Bit of a long shot.

His name is John Alfred Rolfe, his mother was Kathleen Violet Minnie Rolfe, married name Jones.

She had a girl with the surname Jones, husbands name Thomas David Jones who worked and lived in Shepherds Bush for the G.W.R.

Not sure of the babys name as the mum died and Dad was put in an orphanage. Thomas took the baby girl and was never heard of again!

I have reason to believe the little girl was called Jean born circa 1937??? not sure!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Nicky, I am not seeing your dad's birth record in the index. What year and where?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Apr 2010 16:26

In Q3 1934 in Chelmsford we have these registrations

- on page 1005: Jean A Cleave
- on page 1006: Joan M Cleave also registered as Cleve

mother's surname Rolfe.

But those look accounted for by a Winifred M Rolfe who married a Cleave in Braintree in 1924.

There is also the Jean I Jones in Brentford in 1935, mother Rolfe.

Again, only the birth certificates will tell you who the mother was.

(You put the names and birthdates of JIJ's children in the other thread -- you should delete them as they are undoubtedly living and don't know their family's situation is being discussed here.)

Forgive me if I have missed anything while composing this -- when I went looking for Cleave-Rolfe marriages at Ancestry I saw I had a message -- and yes! it's a cousin for me! who saw my notes on her grx2 grandmother's census entries (sister of my gr-gfather) and was thrilled to find me. (Unlike my fellow grx2 grandhild here at GR, through his mother's line, who thought the family of his French airman father was much more worthwhile ...) So I've been busy answering that. She's not in England -- I wonder whether she's in Canada??

Okay, now ignore me. ;)

Although it would call for delicacy, the easy way to find out about JIJ would be to contact someone with CH born 1958 Chiswick in their tree here at GR; there are several, one of whom seems to be CH herself. At least some of them also have Jean Jones 1935 in their tree.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 8 Apr 2010 17:26

Janey.
Who are CH 1958 and JIJ?

Did I get left behind somewhere?

OK ,caught up with JIJ but still lost on CH..

FannyByGaslight Report 8 Apr 2010 18:56

Just to muddy the water.

So Kathleen was born ,married and died in Essex.
Has first child born in Essex.

So only children born in Essex need be looked at I would have thought.
JIJ was born in Brentford area..not too far away, but not Essex.
But worth a try of course.

How did you suddenly come up with the name Jean please Nicky?

And are you certain there was a child and it was a girl?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Apr 2010 19:00

CH is a child of JIJ and her marriage to H. ;)

Nicky had put the full info in that other thread and I recommended she delete it - living people, and a member of GR at that!

Why I don't think Susann is related -- born in a whole different place, where there is a long-rooted clan of Rolfes already.

YES, YES,YES
YES
KATHLEEN ROLFES HUBBY WAS LIVING IN SHEPHERDS BUSH WHEN SHE DIED IN 1937 BUT KATHLEEN WAS LIVING IN CHELMSFORD WHEN SHE DIED ACCORDING TO HER DEATH CERTIFICATE. I DID A BIT OF LOOKING ON THE FREE BMD THINGIE AND SOMEHOW CAME UP WITH JEANS NAME IN BRENTFORD MIDDX AREA , THERE R SO MANY JONES BIRTHS
THE CHILD WAS CERTAINLY A GIRL. I THINK THE STEP DAD DIDNT WANT DAD AND LEFT HIM WITH KATHLEENS GRAN MINNIE, BUT MINNIE WAS TOO OLD TO KEEP HIM AND PUT HIM IN THE ORPHANAGE.... MUST REMEMBER THIS HAPPENED IN THE WARTIME

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 8 Apr 2010 20:14

London. Shepherd's Bush seems to be spread between Fulham and Kensington!

Had a negative reply from Jean on the Electoral Roll scenario - not that it matters now.

Really pleased about your cousin JC - I realise how much this will mean to you :))))

1911 has Shepherds Bush in Fulham reg district?

Sub district:North Hammersmith

I wonder where Mr Jones was from? With a small child in tow he would have needed backup and with War looming he would no doubt have had to fight.
So did he go to his family?
And if so where were they from?

May I have Mr Jones details from the marriage cert please Nicky?
Age,occupation ,fathers name and occupation and were the witnesses his family?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Apr 2010 21:13

Good grief, a gazillion HMRs in the marriages. The only possible one, by date, is 1967, Dorset. Heaven help us if she became a Jones when her mother married.

I've been remembering the trick and clicked on the page for that 1936 birth entry, but there is no re-registration as Jones.

The 1967 marriage was to Edwards. A Hilda Edwards born in the right quarter died in 2003 in Nottingham, but this is all a bit stretchy.

Who is/ was Hilda, another possibility???

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 8 Apr 2010 21:16

Same 1967 marriage I came up with, which made me suddenly wonder where Mr Jones came from...

Yes Nicky another possibility from Shepherds Bush area.
But marries an Edwards we think, nearly as bad as Jones !
