Hi, Would someone be so kind as to see if they can locate Cecil Chrlesworth born c1873 Gateshead, Newcastle

and his brother Henry G. (George) Carr Charlesworth born Morpeth, Newastle c1871.

I have no records after 1881 of them, never found them in 1891 either.

Last known living in Bradford, Yorkshire.

Thank you if you can help.

Gateshead and Newcastle were in different Counties: they're on opposite sides of the Tyne

Parents?

Sorry Reggie,

Parents were for the time being Henry George Carr and Annie Singleton. However she was believed to be an actress calling herself Amy Singleton born c1847 Scotland and it seems married Edmondson Charlesworth in March 1878 after the death of Henry in Feb 1878 and subsequently left her husband and children for a life on stage.

Edmondson Charlesworth died in Bradford 1916, Amy's death is unknown.

Ah I did'nt have this entry in my notes, I think I've lost some in updating my FT program.

Thank you, I'll rethink this one.

Thank you, I have these...it seems Annie/Amy either abandoned her family or divorced possibly as she disappeared after 1891 , further records of Edmondson record him as still married but no sign of his wife.

Reggie, I had some notes from years ago saying its possible she died in Ireland. Maybe she was just visiting her family or died suddenly...who knows..

Thank you both.

Divorce simply didn't happen for anyone other than the very wealthy and/or influential

How could her father be John Carr if she'd been married to the father of her sons?

Although, on the cert, she calls herself a spinster

Says that her 'deceased' father had been a Colliery proprietor

Sue - I would recommend you remove the "mark thread as answered" tick. It looks as though there are still records to find but people won't bother with this thread if it appears that everything has been resolved.

Do you have Henry G and Cecil's birth certificates, or even the entries in the index? As much accurate info as possible will help us find them after 1891.

EDIT: Have deleted an erroneous birth that I posted.

The mother-in-law on 1871 confirms this marriage:

Just wondering if the Hutch in this 1891 is actually Hatch and Cecil is staying with relatives?

This 1881 shows that Robert Hatch is Annie/Amy's brother so I'd say that is definitely "our" Cecil in 1891:

On the 1901 Scottish census Robert Hatch is using the middle name "Burgess" so I'm wondering if the BS initials for Henry on the 1871 are Burgess Singleton?

(All this working back hopefully will help us go forward and find what happened to them).

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 20 May 2012 11:51

Yes, here's Henry in 1911 and he's named his younger daughter after his mother:

CARR, Henry Burgess Singleton Head Married M 40 1871 Wool Salesman Lanarkshire Glasgow Resident
CARR, Louisa Wife Married 7 years F 28 1883 Yorkshire Bradford
CARR, Margaret Kathleen Daughter F 10 1901 School Yorkshire Bradford
CARR, Amy Singleton Daughter F 6 1905 School Yorkshire Bradford

RG number: RG14 Piece: 26710 Reference: RG14PN26710 RG78PN1539 RD498 SD1 ED36 SN151
Registration District: Bradford
Sub District: Bowling
Enumeration District: 36
Parish: Bradford

Address: 20 Garibaldi Street Thornbury County: Yorkshire (West riding)

According to the original form Louisa had only had one child, which must be Amy. Margaret Kathleen is perhaps from a previous marriage of Henry's.

This looks like his marriage to Louisa:

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

BURROW Louisa Wolstanton 6b 143
CARR Henry Burgess S Wolstanton 6b 143

Possibly his previous marriage:

Carr Henry Burgess S Leeds 9b 943
Hainsworth Kate Emma Leeds 9b 943
Pearson George Edward Leeds 9b 943

He married Kate Emma going by the baptism of eldest daughter:

Parish: Bradford, St Augustine
Baptism Date: 17 Jul 1900
Father's Name: Henry Burgess Snifeton Carr < Wool Buyer

Sadly Kate Emma died very young:
