Thank you Christina

Can we safely say then that Mary Elizabeth Foxley is my Mary Foxley, although nowhere, once she is connected to William, does it say Mary Elizabeth, just Mary. :-S

So sorry I am only just coming back on to the community. I really do appreciate the help you have all given me. If I am forgiven then I would much appreciate help with Mary Foxley who married William Senior in Chorlton on Medlock 1875. Their marriage cert. gives the following info. but I am finding it difficult to connect Mary to any census before 1881. After that date there is no problem.

Marriage: 25 July 1875
Place: All Saints Church, Chorlton on Medlock in County of Lancaster

William Senior 19 Bachelor Boilermaker Grosvenor Street F. Thomas Senior? Boilermaker
Mary Foxley 19 Spinster Grosvenor Street F. Thomas Foxley Labourer

Witness: George Platt and Jane Foxley

Hoping someone can help.

Regards

Shirley :-D

No you are on the right track. It just means that in 1871 he was entered with his father/step fathers name. This wasn't unusual, although officially he was still Senior his mothers name before he married.

Seems my joy was short lived. We must have the wrong William Senior because I have checked the 1871 census for Thomas Hurstfield and by then William's name had been changed to Hurstfield. The search goes on. :-(

Thanks Mel

Looks like the pieces are now fitting together. Hopefully I shall be able to move on now. :-D

Yes I agree with you Mel. He was living with Thomas's parents at the time of the 1861 census and they obviously considered him to be their grandson as they listed him as such.

Whether biological, or not, Thomas Hurstfield raised him and he was the one William named as his father on his marriage cert.

WEll I think you can definately say that Thomas Hurstfield (boiler Maker) was put down as the father and of course he could have been William's father but Kate had him before they were married.

What do you think?

Hi everyone

William Senior's father Thomas was also a boilermaker. Hope this helps.

Thomas Hurstfield's occupation is a Boiler Maker, same as William Senior's in the 1881 census.

What was William's father's occupation shown as on his marriage cert?

Edit: Does the marriage cert have father's name written as Thomas Senior, or just Thomas?

Thanks everyone, looks like william senior may well have been born in Oldham. I need to try to verify this so any additional help will be much appreciated.
