Do you have the marriage certificate to find out William's declared age? His father's name and occupation?

Given that he married during WW2, he could have been born anywhere.

Have you looked for William's birth on free bmd, and do you know when he died?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 28 Mar 2014 21:41

His wife's surname was rather unusual so I was intrigued to see this:

England & Wales, Marriage Index, 1916-2005

NAME: Doreen H Killengrey
SPOUSE: Barber
MARRIAGE: Mar 1942 - Edmonton, Middlesex
OTHER: QJan-Jan-Feb-Mar 1942

NAME: Doreen H Killengrey
SPOUSE: Robe
MARRIAGE: Sep 1953 - Stoke Newington, London, Greater London
OTHER: QMar-Jul-Aug-Sep 1953

Did she remarry or is it a coincidence?

If you don't have it, get a copy of the marriage cert.............for facts about William, and his father - if he knew him

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 28 Mar 2014 22:10

As William's name is so common, you can't hope to proceed until you know the info from his marriage cert

Thanks MarieCeleste,
Yes this is the family, researching for a Robe desendant. So Doreen Killengrey is part of my research. I have been asked to research this tree for a friend and it seems to be an very interesting story. I have just learned that Doreen is still with us,
So I won't say anymore for all to see. Any help for now with researching Doreen's or James W Robe ancestor's very welcome.
Regards Nicky

Her birth is on freebmd..........find it.........then look for the marriage of her parents

Do the same for James

Although whether you'll see this, I'm not sure.

But if you want to know about Doreen.............................why not ask her?

Nicola, Reggie makes a very good point - if you're researching the family and one of those people is still alive then their permission really should be sought, plus they may be able to help you.

Not sure why info is requestd for Barber......he is not related to the person seeking the info

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 29 Mar 2014 19:17

Reggie, many people include former spouses of people in their trees - not for us to question it.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 29 Mar 2014 21:15

Include his name, by all means - I didn't suggest otherwise - but he has no real relevance.

Nicola

Nicola Report 29 Mar 2014 22:49

Hi all,
As I have said before, I do research for friends who ask me to do so.
I'm sure you all know that there is often more than 1 marriage involved in researching a tree and with that maybe several surnames...
It's a hobby, I enjoy it. Well I did, but the constant questioning of my motives from certain people is becoming a bit much.

patchem

patchem Report 29 Mar 2014 23:36

I agree with Nicola.

'Real relevance' is not the point, it is what the person wants in their tree that is important to them and should be included.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 29 Mar 2014 23:37

Nicola, don't take it to heart. People have different viewpoints so conduct your research as you feel appropriate, whilst respecting the privacy of living people.

On that basis, the relevance of who is included on a tree is for you to decide and no-one else.

Reggie to put it bluntly - it's got nothing to do with you as to who is relevant and who is not. We are here to help people like Nicola, not to opinionate.
