yes, Shae, doing family history can be costly, especially if you wish to have accurate data

Most of the helpers on here subscribe to either Ancestry or Find My Past, and use the info they find there to help others

You can take out a free 14-day trial on both sites

familysearch is a free site, which has 1871 and 1881 censuses in full, and lots of other records, but they are not as recent as those on the paid-for siates

you can also look up some census + BMD records for free at local libraries in GB .But it takes me an hour to come up with stuff that regulars seem to find in seconds
