Find Ancestors

I tried putting this on the other day but there were obviously problems and now the thread's disappeared, so apologies if you've seen this before.

I'm looking for the arrival in America of David Sims and his family. He was born in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, in 1860. He married Sarah Ann Evans and they had a daughter, Mary Ann, who was born in 1879. David received naturalisation in 1888 and they were still in Merthyr Tydfil at the time of the 1881 census. There were other children who probably went with them. I know that Mary Ann married in the U.S.A. in 1897. I also know David and Sarah are buried in Orchard Street Cemetery, Dover. New Jersey.

I'd be grateful if anyone could find the date they travelled or arrived in America.

Yes, I've just checked the names and it's them. They had ten children in all. Three were born in Merthyr so the rest must have been born after they emigrated. There were two named Bessie then. The first Bessie was born in Merthyr in 1881 and died in 1885. It was common in these parts to name a subsequent child after one who had died. I've got a snippet that says the Bessie born in 1886 married Joseph Hughes so that must have been in America. This is a real bonus. Thank you so much.

Thanks for that, Gins. Poor little thing. The whole family had loads of children. David was one of ten children and his father was one of nine children. I thought there was another son, David, born in 1892 in America but I must have been wrong because he's not on the census. My next task will be a tour of the cemeteries in Merthyr Tydfil.
