Laird Report 30 Apr 2016 21:39

You see the info you provided greyhost should actually have been sufficient for the purchase of my grandad's birth certificate but some odd reason several certificates I ordered failed to materialise for reasons I can not fathom. Hence I have now had to write to the GRO and fingers crossed this time I will be successful.

Edit: You will note I attempted to order my grandfather's BC back of this thread on 15 Aug 2015 without success.

Laird Report 4 May 2016 13:09

So the GRO sent my great grandmothers bc yesterday. Born the same year as her future husband Frank Henry Simms. Matilda Amanda Eliason was born if I can decipher the cursive script 10th November 1892, Lay Cottage, can't read the other cursive writing but could make out sub district of Myton in the County of Kingston upon Hull. Father listed as Elias Eliason (Merchant Seaman) and mother Matilda Eliason formerly Knudson?

Still no sign of my grandfather's bc...

Laird Report 4 May 2016 13:14

If my grandfather's bc turns up Harry Leonard Simms I'll move on to his marriage license to Stella Hawkins (maiden name).

ArgyllGran Report 5 May 2016 11:40

Matilda's parents' marriage (note spelling):

Marriages Sep 1884 (>99%)
Eliasson Elias Hull 9d 310
Kundson Matilde Hull 9d 310

They sound Scandinavian.

Thanks for all the useful info! I discovered I already have the marriage license of Amanda Matilda Elison and Frank Henry Simms (my great grandparents) and also their birth certificates!

My grandad Harry Leonard Simms is proving much harder, where records a bit more patchy in 1914 I wonder?

All I could obtain so far is this-

I figure there has to be a record of his birth and marriage to my grandmother Stella.

ArgyllGran Report 6 May 2016 18:00

Birth already posted on pages 1 and 6:

Births Mar 1915 (>99%)
SIMMS Harry L Eliasen Hull 9d 574

ArgyllGran Report 6 May 2016 18:04

Is this another marriage?? (Apologies if already posted.)

Littlewood Violet R Simms Birmingham 6d 1642
Simms Harry L Littlewood Birmingham 6d 1642

Laird Report 6 May 2016 20:07

Twice! I have requested my grandad's BC from the GRO and without success.......clearly they do not have a certificate of record :-(

Laird Report 21 May 2016 13:05

Hooray I now have Harry Leonard Simms born in 1914 birth certificate.

ArgyllGran Report 21 May 2016 13:24

Congratulations, Kerensky!

Laird Report 21 May 2016 15:15

Thank you ArgyllGran, you've been a star in assisting me locate family records.

My next project is to locate my grandad Harry Leonard Simms & Stella Hawkins marriage license.

Laird Report 6 Jun 2016 11:32

How would I find out if my Grandads Harry Leonard Simms or George Alexander Lever Frizzell had military records? They both would have been of age for service in WWII???

ArgyllGran Report 6 Jun 2016 15:39

I'm assuming when you say you're looking for Harry & Leonard's [EDIT: I mean Stella's ! ] marriage license you mean marriage certificate??

Greyghost posted it on page 1 of this long thread.
I'll repeat it here:

Marriages Mar 1955 (>99%)
DYE Margaret L E S SIMS Durham S.E. 1a 1796
DYE Stella SIMS Durham S.E. 1a 1796
HAWKINS Margaret L E S SIMS Durham S.E. 1a 1796
SIMS Harry L DYE Durham S.E. 1a 1796
SIMS Harry L HAWKINS Durham S.E. 1a 1796

Laird Report 6 Jun 2016 16:55

1955 seems possible. So that would be Harry Leonard Simms and Stella Hawkins.

Laird Report 6 Jun 2016 16:56

Or maybe not because Stella was previously married. I think her surname was Day?
