This looks like the baptism for Mary Elizabeth Florence although her birth was registered as Durrant and this baptism seems to have been 3 days after Celia married Edward

A possibility??

When Celia married Edward she was asked her father's name and just gave her step-father's christian name, the person recording the information then assumed the surname was Whitehead.

You asked about Alice Beatrice's birth cert, Middy.

As her birth was registered under the surname Whitehead, it's unlikely that the father would be named.

Sorry to be a pain I need some more help or guidance

I am looking for a marriage between a Jessie and Robert Durrant - they are parents noted on the baptism record for Edward Durrant 1858

Robert married Olivia in 1853 and confirms he was a widower - just confused as cannot find anything regarding Jessie apart from being on the baptism record - it would appear that Olivia is the mum as she was married to Robert when he was born but she is not on the baptism???

Where was Edward Durrant baptised? I can see a baptism for an Edward Durrant and two siblings on the same day with parents Robert and Jessie but the baptism is in 1864 and not 1858, or do you mean he was born in 1858?

According to the baptism Record the three children were Thomas William Durrant born 1855, Edward Ottaway Durrant born 1857 and Elizabeth Durrant born 1861.

Perhaps Robert and Jessie never actually married.

Yes that is him in 1861 - no wonder I could not find him as Durant spelt with only one R and Ottaway spelt Attaway

Can't see young James's birth in Wingfield.
Nor him in later censuses.

Nor the death of a Jessie (or similar) Durrant 1846-51 in Suffolk or Kent.

I've looked through all the James births in Hartismere reg district around 1847, in case he was registered under his mother's surname, but I don't see any illegitimate births.

Sorry Kathleen - I meant the birth was 1858 and yes they are the baptisms that I had found with parents being Robert and Jessie

That's why I was trying to find young James's birth c1847, Middy.

GRO would show his mother's maiden surname, which would give us a clue re Jessie, assuming James was Robert's son.

The thing that I am confused about is that Jessie is noted as the mother on the baptism record - but at the point of baptism - Robert & Olivia had been married five years before Edward was born? I thought that maybe Jessie could be Olivia middle name but cannot see that either?

Does the marriage of Robert and Olivia give an age for Olivia?

It just confirms 'above age' ?

I just wondered if the death I found earlier for Olivia was "your" Olivia. It is always possible that Robert and Olivia just separated and went on to live with someone else, i.e. Robert living with Jessie. I can find no marriage for a Robert Durrant to a Jessie.

Do you know when Robert died? Is he anywhere in any census with Jessie?
