AustinQ Report 16 Sep 2018 17:16

Carly- the only sister I can see with surname Hall and mother's maiden name Hiom is Emily b1920.

Sampson's mother was young enough to have children with her Husband, Thomas George Kay- but I don't see any children registered.

The Samson Maynard listed at 562 Caledoinian Road died in 1922- so would not have had a child a lot younger than Sampson Hall.

It might be possible that husands Thomas G Kay or Arthur J Poyton had other children- although again I'm not seeing any connection with a Rachel/ Rachael and those surnames.

Where did you get the name Rachel M and Archie from?

rootgatherer Report 16 Sep 2018 21:08

According to the 1911 census, Samson Maynard and his wife were childless.

From the original request on page one of this thread

His name Sampson Maynard Hall, no father on birth cert 1917. Would like to know any siblings he had. His father was Walter Hall

Sorry, but I can't make sense of the above...........................what am I missing?

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 18 Sep 2018 15:32

ErikaH- reading the thread makes it clear.

Emily Hiom married Walter Hall- she had child Sampson in 1917, but Walter was not listed on the birth certificate (presumably as he wasn't the father). Emily later married Thomas Kay in 1928, and married again in 1945 to Arthur Poyton.

Carly had thought that Sampson had a younger sister called Rachel, but we are struggling to find her. The only sister found was Emily born 1920 who married William Warne.

Sorry guys ill keeps posts here i didnt realise it was better....
info to update you all....

Sampson maynard senior was married to louisa cracknell jones who died in 1914...he met emily hiom and had a son named sampson maynard hall, registered at 562 caledonian road, holloway, middlesex in 1917.

So, with your help it looks like Sampson Maynard senior was Sampson Maynard Halls bio father. I really cant thank you enough. Im trying to get as much info for my dad as he collapsed the other day and has alot of unaswered questions with his family histoy.

Would anyone be so kind as to search above address to see how long the MAYNARDS occupied a residence.... ( i have been given 1919,1920,1921 as sampson maynard senior livng there alone but i would like any other years too if possible showing other occupants would be great to as i am at a bit of a stand still.

My Grand father has the address on his birth cert (1917) i am trying to find his sister rachel :-(

When was the marriage with thomas george kay ? Seems she had a few making it harder to track ....

The Sampson Maynard listed at 562 Caledoinian Road died in 1922- sems to of had more from what my auntie and father tell me, hence the names they gave rachel and archie, recently i was given stanley too?? Rachel wouldve been younger than sampson but im not sure exactly how much younger....

Early on i was assuming rachel/rachael surname wouldve been the same .... before findin the later children and names and husbands now invovlved....jheeeze... thank you so much for your time...

Marriages will be on freebmd - easy to find. I'll let you have the pleasure of tracing them. AustinQ has given you the years

Carly

Carly Report 24 Sep 2018 19:45

My nan threw everything away in regards to my grandad sadly so im struggling but the info you have all found i dont think i would for ages.... maybe sampson maynard senior had another woman at the house who had more children within the 5 years he died?

Carly Report 6 Nov 2018 15:48

ok thank you, i was trying to trace the address for more relative names... I have since traced living cousins too with thanks to you guys here being as helpful as you are. :-) Thank you

Also with the Rachel confusion .... she was known as Rachel but she was in fact born Emily. Her mum ( my greatgran) was imprisoned for bigamy apparently in holloway prison. I was told after meeting up with some new cousins :-) I havent found any concrete proof and wouldnt know where to start on that one.
Thank yuou again tho :-)

Try the British Newspaper Archive. Its included in some GR & FMP subscriptions.

As there's so many names on this thread, can you pick out the details of your great grandmother?
When she was born
Name at birth (not the pet name)
Who she married & when.

Those of us who have a sub covering the BNA can have a look. Try a search yourself on GR & post the results so we can see if they are relevant.

Great grandmother is Emily Hiom b 1892 who married Walter Hall in 1911. She then had children with widower Sampson Maynard.

Her other marriages

rootgatherer Report 10 Nov 2018 18:45

As her second and third marriages were both using her married name she would either be widowed or divorced presumably. Do you have ALL her marriage certificates please? Have you looked for deaths of her first and second husband please?

I'm not seeing anything obvious on the newspaper archives but it may not have made the newspapers or perhaps only a line or two in the local newspaper.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 11 Nov 2018 11:49

It's also possible that she lived as married with Arthur Tyas. On the 1939 electoral roll Emily is possibly listed with surname Tyas.

Copied from my earlier post:

1939
43 Oaklands Avenue, Edmonton
Arthur Tyas
Emily Tyas<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Sampson Maynard Hall
Joseph Harvey
---------------------------------

This is the same address on the 1939 register:

43 Oaklands Avenue, Edmonton
Emily Kay (later Poyton) born 5th Oct1893, married, Housewife
Emily Hall (later Warne) born 20th Jan 1920, single home duties
Arthur Tyas born 26 Oct 1876, widowed, bricklayer
Henry Ettrdge born 25th Jan 1881, married, sewing mechanic
----------------------------

It looks as though Arthur married widow Emma Turner (nee Flutter) in 1912. She died in 1928 (they had sons Albert and James). Arthur died in 1942 (Under Joseph Arthur Tyas).

If the Emily Tyas listed on the electoral roll is Emily (Hiom) she was living with Arthur from at least 1934. I wonder if she didn't marry Arthur due to her husband, Thomas G Kay, still being alive?

Looking at the death registers I don't see a likely death for a Thomas G Kay before Emily remarried in 1945. There is a Thomas G Kay living in the Islington area, but I don't see him with Emily.

Do you have her 1945 marriage certificate? Is she listed as widowed?
It might be easier if you post all the details of the 1928 and 1945 marriages (including witnesses and adresses).
