Megs Dicky Island Report 2 Apr 2019 11:01

Looking for help please after 1901.

Mary Anne Elizabeth Cook born 1877 Great Yarmouth.
Mother Martha Cook.

I know Mary married William Lee (born 1877 Woolwich) in 1899 Norfolk.

They had a Daughter Annie Elizabeth Lee born 1900.

I have found the family in 1901 living in Gorleston, Great Yarmouth , she is down as Emma, I know its definitely her as her brother Henry is with her.

I can't seem to find anything after that.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks everyone. Think I'll have to dig into William Lee's family a bit more. I do know his father was called Henry according to Marriage Banns.
Don't where the name Emma has come in, but her birth certificate says Mary Ann Elizabeth Cook.
She was christened Marianne Elizabeth Cook 23th May 1877.

Yes thats Mary, Maylon. The burial for Mary did it give an age. The death records aren't showing anything that would fit.

Thanks Maddie, think you might be on the right track with this.

Mary's father was wrong on marriage banns, so could be a possibility William's was as well.

Already serving with Royal (something unreadable) Regiment.

Among other places, he served in south Africa 16/03/1900 to 30/12/1901.

Died on 31/12/1901 of enteric fever at Norvalspont (?).

Can't be Emma's husband, unless she had given his name to the enumerator in 1901 and hadn't said he was actually in South Africa at the time.

1911 says William and Emma had had 3 children, of whom one had died.

Although the transcription says William was a yard man, the image says he was a gardener at the Duke of York R[oyal] M[ilitary] School.

This Ada is throwing me off with conflicting birth dates.
Am I missing something?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 2 Apr 2019 13:18

Ancestry suggests this is William's birth - but that's just because 1911 gives his YOB as 1881, so isn't necessarily correct:

LEE, WILLIAM mms LOTT
GRO Reference: 1881 D Quarter in SHEPPEY Volume 02A Page 879

EDIT:

And it's not the correct birth.

That child's father is William:

LEE William Sheppey 2a 1259
LOTT Elizabeth Sheppey 2a 1259

I don't think William Henry with father George is the right man, Megs - in which case Ada is irrelevant.

William Henry died in South Africa1901, if the army record is the right one.
