Thanks for clarifying that George is the George Henry and not the george Kenneth. Thanks Erica. Well spotted. :-)

Unfortunately, the birth registration shows the tree to be dreadfully inaccurate

The person compiling it has fallen into the trap of taking Ancestry 'hints' as fact, and hasn't bothered to verify

ADAMS, GEORGE KENNETH HERRWING HERRWING
GRO Reference: 1910 M Quarter in BATTLE Volume 02B Page 41

The above is NOT the George on 1911 census (page one of this thread)

Some children of the second marriage are on the 1911 census - posted on page one of this thread

Look for later ones using freebmd - easy to search using surname and MMN

Thanks dea. She really is a woman of mystery. At least I'm confident that James Wilkinson is the correct one Nyway. Back on with this query as people from Canada and Australia have emailed to say they still looking for children of Emma and Frederick George, her second marriage. No sign of any except for Edward Wilkinson. :-)

Dea

Dea Report 6 Jul 2019 07:24

If she is the one above then she was born illigitimately and in those instances people very often 'made up' a father to put on their marriage cert !

I will keep looking though to see if I can find one with a father to fit but I really think she was Fanny's child, although her actual father still could have been a William.

Emma's dad was supposedly William Mitchell, a farmer. From her wedding certificate to James in Skipton in 1895.

Shirley

Shirley Report 6 Jul 2019 00:04

Still trying to find death of James Wilkinson. Karina seems to think that either Emma didn't marry James, even though we think she fid in 1895n Skipton. Because with no death seeming to be between 1901 to 1905 when she remarried to Frederick Adams he either absconded, she absconded and as not listed as deceased on Edwards 1925 wedding certificate Emma or Katherine Emma could be a bigamist. Or they maybe got a divorce, rare in those days. Just because he wasn't down as deceased in 1925 doesn't mean he wasn't though does it?

Fanny and James Bannister were married in 1881 - I doubt whether he was the father of Emma and James (Mitchell) but we will probably never know!

Hi dea
Looks like fanny Mitchell and James bannister married in 1881 so they had only just married each other on that census in Worcester it seems.

Shirley Report 4 Jul 2019 18:07

Yes think that's definately her. You may be right about being on two census. As they had no children and she coukd even have commuted between the two although Worcester and hartlepool are quite far apart. Maybe James had another woman with him on census night who pretended to be Emma. Maybe the reason they had no children is because they were hardly together until 1901. And maybe he was a bit of a cad ????

Shirley

Shirley Report 4 Jul 2019 18:01

Mm maybe. Hartlepool woukd work though. She wasn't actually a bannister either was she, a Mitchell, and either James was her step father or her real dD and her mum had her out of wedlock

Dea

Dea Report 4 Jul 2019 16:13

Now, I just found that Emma moved up to Hartlepool by 1901 - this was where James had been in 1891 BUT I then noticed that Emma was still at her parents home when she should by now have been married to James !!

However, just when I decided it couldn't be her I realised that although she is still shown under her maiden name, with her family, she is in fact marked as 'married' ...

So, I feel sure that it is her !
1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census
13, Everett Street, West Hartlepool, Hartlepool, Durham, England

First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Age Birth year Occupation Birth place
James Bannister Head Married Male 54 1847 Shipyard Labourer Herefordshire, England
Fanny Bannister Wife Married Female 50 1851 - Worcestershire, England
**Emma Bannister Daughter **Married** Female 28 1873 - Worcestershire, England
James Bannister Son Single Male 26 1875 Shipyard Labourer Herefordshire, England
Winifred Bannister Daughter Single Female 19 1882 - Worcestershire, England
Samuel Bannister Son - Male 15 1886 Farm Servant Worcestershire, England
Jessie Bannister Daughter - Female 13 1888 - Worcestershire, England
Francis H Bannister Son - Male 11 1890 - Worcestershire, England
Fanny Bannister Daughter - Female 9 1892 - Yorkshire, England
Walter Bannister Son - Male 2 1899 - West Hartlepool, Durham, England

She could have been recorded with the family in error or perhaps she was visiting at the time so included and James included her with him as that was where she actually lived. - I have seen people recorded in two places on a census several times before.

P.S. - What do you think about the 1881 above for Emma?

I see that Emma's mother Fanny was also connected to the 'drapery business'
