It seems I need Peter's Mothers full name, which I don't have, I only have Joan. I put in Peter Vernon born 01/04/1930 in Liverpool. I do apologise for my inexperience
:(

Which birth cetificate are you referring to?

As I said earlier, there is no sign of a birth registration matching your info

Where did you get the name 'Joan' for his mother?

You said earlier that he 'married' a Joan - no evidence of that on freebmd

In fact, he sons are registered in MMN as well, so the parents were definitely NOT married

There was a marriage in Liverpool in 1956 of a Peter Vernon to a female surname Norman, which produced one child. No way of knowing if this is the same Peter

Are you talking about the birth certificate for Peter Vernon born 1930 in West Derby? (and remember we don't know if this is your Peter or not.)

No, you don't need his mother's name at all.

On the GRO site https://www.gro.gov.uk -
assuming you've registered (free), logged in, and clicked "Place an order" -

on the page headed "Start Application", click "Birth (England and Wales)".

On the same page, at "Is the GRO Index Reference Number known?", click Yes.
At "Year in which the event was registered", enter 1930.
Then click "Submit".

On the next page, enter Surname (Vernon) and Forename (Peter).
Quarter - select Apr/May/June
District Name - West Derby
Vol No - 8b
Page No - 706

Scroll further down the page to "Service Options" and select Certificate -Standard (£11) - which is a paper copy which will arrive by post.
Click Submit.

Check your address details etc are correct, click Submit, and then carry on to the payment page.

(Query to helpers -
I don't see the option to order a £7 PDF copy. Has that stopped? I understood it was now a permanent option.) EDIT: GG has answered my question below - silly me - I should have remembered that!

Erika - your link to the pressgazettte site just produces an Error 404 message, and entering "Peter Vernon" in the search box on that page doesn't seem to bring up anything useful.

PM from Karen - have replied asking her to post on the board so all helpers can see her questions.

Thanks Grey Ghost for your time. Does it say how long Peter was in cottage home for ? and do we think Walter is Peters brother? is there a report or something I can purchase to find out why they went inb there :)

----------------
Karen, the 1939 register is a snapshot of where people were on the night of 29 September 1939. The information was used to produce ID cards and then to issue rationing cards due to WW2. Later it was used as the basis for the NHS system and as such you can see updates on the original pages if any were made up to around 1990 when the NHS system went digital. Google and read up about it.

So this is where a Peter and a Walter Vernon are shown as being in the Cottage home, but when they went or left there isn't shown.

Rambling posted a link to the cottage homes - http://www.formerchildrenshomes.org.uk/fazakerley.html
so follow it and look what it has to say - there is information about records on there.

My previously posted link to freebmd shows births of a Walter and Peter Vernon in Liverpool with the same mmn, but you would need to buy the certificates to confirm they were brothers and who were named as the Parents
https://www.freebmd.org.uk - put it in your favourites and find out how to work the site.

The 1952 marriage certificate should show who Peter names as his Father.

Use the reference numbers to order certificates through https://www.gro.gov.uk
You need to register, but that's free. Certificates are £11 for full certificates and £7 for pdf copies which is all you need. However pdf versions are not available for births less than 100 years ago and deaths 50 years. Marriages don't come under the pdf system.

Again read the information on the site to see how it works and then learn your way around it.

I got to the Torquay Herald Express archives using the link. No error messages

Here's another paper for the area

AG - £7 option won't be available as birth under 100 years ago

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 29 Jul 2019 11:45

The £7.00 option isn't for recent events.

Look at the GRO website for details

Yes, thanks - I did know that, but it had slipped my elderly mind.

ErikaH Report 29 Jul 2019 11:48

I haven't seen anywhere in this thread any proof that the man in question was born on the date suggested, or in the supposed location.

Have any of his children got their birth certs? His occupation should be recorded, and may prove enlightening.

Rambling

Rambling Report 29 Jul 2019 12:22

Karen it's best not to post the birth reg of the two girls on here as we are by no means sure they are related and may not want their details to be posted in public. ( note to helpers I sent them via PM).

I'm not sure we are on the right track here or where Billy fits in ( may have missed this?) . If he has the surname Vernon are we certain that his father was Peter T Vernon, as there are other options maybe? Is the DOB you have absolutely certain?

Kelly Report 29 Jul 2019 12:24

I have just ordered Peters birth certificate thanks to Argyl Grans step by step instructions and will keep you all updated. I am thrilled at the responses and very excited. I am going down to Torquay Library to look at the Microfiche Herald Express archived newspapers so may actually find out about the robbery too

Rambling

Rambling Report 29 Jul 2019 12:43

Karen just to recap Billy is the son of Mark I assume, and as that's the case does Mark's birth cert give a middle name for Peter, is the middle initial T correct please.

Kelly

Kelly Report 29 Jul 2019 12:55

Yes Peters Date of birth is 1st April 1930. Just awaiting birth certificate now

Remove details, i'm so sorry new to this :)

Karen

You persist in stating that Peter's DOB was 1st April 1930, but don't give any indication of the source of this 'info'.

Do you have anything which can be checked to back up this idea?

Kelly

Kelly Report 29 Jul 2019 18:49

His Grandson Billy gave the DOB to me.

I have just ordered birth certificate for Peter to back up the idea
