Blast! No Robert with them in 1851 but he would have been 20 and living elsewhere. Look where John was born though.

I have just been hunting down the daughter Janet Watt who was a witness at her mothers dearth in 1901 although she was a Janet Somerville then. As already put on here she is on the 1901 census with a Henry aommerbille her husband also with her are her younger siblings. I cannot find a marriag3 for her either certainly not near Glasgow or Ayrshire

ArgyllGran Report 17 Nov 2019 22:21

Janet Sommerville isn't necessarily Janet Watt, although she was born in the same place.

The Watt children are boarders with the Sommerville family, but not necessarily related.

Janet Sommerville has middle initial F, which Janet Watt didn't have at birth or in censuses.
She's also born 1877 (at least per Ancestry's transcription, though not FMP's) , according to 1901 census, not 1873.

Having said that, I can't see Henry's marriage to any Janet 1891-1901.
Incidentally, Henry has no middle initial on Ancestry's transcription.

Possible marriage for Janet Watt ?

I don't see them in 1901, though.

Aha!
Yes, that marriage is correct for Janet, and they seem to have changed their surname to Sommerville.

That 1900 Mary Death, was that below Address, looking round google search last night (bit late I might add!, lol) came across below...

Chris :)

https://www.geni.com/people/Mary-Watt/6000000047106091925

For below at same Street...

1901
Alex Watt Head Married Male 65 1836 Spirit Mcht Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland
Mary Watt Wife Married Female 64 1837 - Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland
Alex Watt - - Male 29 1872 Engineer Marine Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Jane Mathie - - Female 19 1882 Dom Servt England
Boglemart Street, Stevenston, Ayrshire, Scotland

1891
Janet Cowan Wife Married Female 66 1825 Blacksmiths Wife Dunbartonshire, Scotland
Jessie C Watt Daughter Married Female 29 1862 Marine Engineers Wife Ayrshire, Scotland
George Y Watt Grandson - Male 1 1890 - Ayrshire, Scotland
Boglemart Street, Stevenston, Ayrshire, Scotland

1871, 1881 seems to be some Halberts at Boglemart Street also...

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 18 Nov 2019 08:46

A quick Google shows there are still Halberts in Stevenston.

This says that Robert died in 1905:

https://www.geni.com/people/Robert-Watt/6000000047106450843

but I suspect that's a guess, as no place of death is given.

But if true, that 1906 death in Durham could still be correct, as it was registered in the 1st quarter, so could have taken place in 1905.

Interestingly, it says that Mary was known as "Georgie" !

Lindsey Report 18 Nov 2019 09:25

I have just viewed the marriage for Janet Watt and Henry Forest it definitely is them. Janet gives her address as 34 Townhead Street, stevenston and Henry is Living at Ardeer Stevenston. They both work at the Dynamite factory. Robert watt her father was a foundry worker at the time

Yes Chris the Boglemart Street address is where Mary died

Argyllgran I still think the 1901 Townhead census could be Janet watt now as Sommerville and the ages of the Watts with her are the right age for her brothers and as in The earlier 1891 census.

Re Chris's last post mentioning the workhouse -

yesterday on Ancestry I found a record for a Robert Watt in the workhouse in Durham [ I think 1905 or 1906 ] - but can't find it again today!

Lindsey

Lindsey Report 18 Nov 2019 10:49

Argyllgran I have viewed that image on scotspeople it just says Robert Watt at Union Workhouse aged 75 died January 13th 1906
It was a burial record

Lindsey

Lindsey Report 18 Nov 2019 11:51

I have ordered the certificate for Robert Watt 1906 to be sure if it is or isn’t him

Trouble is, it might just say Workhouse, with Informant being a member of staff...

You could always see Admissions, google for info. Durham Workhouse.

(1901 Census, George William Richardson, Master)

Perhaps Durham, or that area, was his Birthplace...

Email reply from North Ayrshire Bereavement Services today:

"Thank you for your enquiry.

I can advise that Mary Watt was buried on 22/08/1900 in Stevenston New Street Cemetery, Section J & Lair Number 130.

Detailed below are those also buried in the lair with their date of burial:
Mr Connor, 09/10/1893
Mr Sommerville, 04/12/1893
Agnes Murphy, 09/05/1934

The title holder of the grave is Henry Sommerville."

We know who Henry Sommerville is .
The Mr Sommerville who died 1893 may be Janet's husband's father?

Agnes Murphy is probably Henry & Janet's daughter:

Marriage:
FORREST
AGNES SOMERVILL
MURPHY
JOHN
1919
654/ 29
Rutherglen

Don't know (yet) who Mr Connor is.
I've replied, asking if there's any record of Mr Connor's age or DOB.

Per SP, the only Conn*r death in the Ardrossan/Saltcoats/Stevenston area in 1893 was Jane ConnAr, died in Ardrossan.
