There were loads of Harcuses (and other spellings) in Orkney.

Their marriage record (which I can't find so far) won't show their fathers' names.

I can't even see a baptism for the alleged son, never mind any marriage between Harcus and Hewison

i think natural son means illegitimate in scotland

1841 census never gives relationships, so it's impossible to say if she's his wife or not.
Could be his sister.


You say she's with the family in 1851 - but not according to Ancestry's transcription (below).
You need to look at the image of the original on Scotland People to see if the transcription is accurate or not.

The 1812 baptism showing mother as Jean is the only likely one on SP - but of course other records may not have survived, or other children not have been baptised.
