My 2nd great grandmother varies a lot in age I have her baptism as 1818 when she died she was put as 78 which was in 1883 which would make her born in 1805
Could they be so far out with her age It also varies on census

Perhaps she was baptised late? Did she have siblings who were baptised at the same time?

Her age at death is only ‘as known’ by the person registering it. Do you have the actual cert?

People often weren’t sure about when they were born - especially pre-1837 when there were no certificates

If you want other eyes to look at the records, post the name and location

what was your gt.grandmothers name where was she born i could find her on the census

What about census in between , how much did her age vary

I have her death as 1883
I do not have the death certificate yet
On the Census from 1851 to 1881They lived in and around Coseley and Sedgley t Midlands

Thank you all for your help I have now sent for certificate when it arrives I will let you know if it is the correct Sarah

It's worth repeating that the age stated on a death cert isn't necessarily correct, as it depends on what the informant knew, or thought they knew.

You still won't know exactly when she was born, but at least you'll know when she died
- assuming that's the right death cert..

My grt x 2 grandad fathers age varied from census to census but he couldn’t read or write so wouldn’t be able to count either

His age at death just didn’t equate to any earlier census age but the informant was family so I knew the death cert was him

I just made notes about his age on my ftm tree

The certificate arrived today but alas it is not my family

The certificate for this Sarah address Tipton not Coseley and husband William not John so the search continues I will keep looking for the deaths for both John and Sarah
