Have you found her marriage on Scotland’s people? That should give you details of her parents which will make finding her birth easier.

For our reference -

They had a number of children, whom you probably know about.

You need the marriage cert for her parents' names.
It will cost you 6 credits to view the image of the marriage cert on SP.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 25 Jun 2021 19:10

You refer to 1911 census…….her birthplace will be recorded on it

her parents will be named on the marriage cert, which you can download from SP website if you buy some units

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 25 Jun 2021 19:14

That will be another 6 credits to see the 1911 census.

Personally, I would opt first for the marriage cert, which will give the names of both parents, including mother's maiden name, and father's occupation..
Then perhaps the census as back-up, if her birth can't be traced from the parents' names

caza

caza Report 25 Jun 2021 19:19

we know there were 4 children only one is recorded with mothers maiden name at death

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 25 Jun 2021 19:28

Assuming the births of children were registered in Garngadhill, there are these Kenna children (though they're not likely to be all the same family):

Agnes 1912
Thomas McGuinne[ss] 1913
Charlotte 1914
Henry 1915 - also died 1915
Andrew 1917 - that's the one with mmn recorded at death
Ellen 1921

Joseph 1927
Agnes Richardson 1928
Joseph 1929
Margaret Brogan 1930
Rosina 1931

Either James is Father to Catherine and the children are her brothers or
James is brother in law to Andrew and the children are perhaps his.

Do you have the full census you can post? Presume you have it if you can mention the relationships given

Catherine's parents were James and Catherine, per her marriage cert.
What was Catherine's father's occupation on the marriage cert?
Does it say if he was deceased or not?

I'm wondering about this family - although Katie/Catherine's age is a couple of years out from that stated in 1911, and the age of the glassblower brother James is wildly different .

I've had look at Catherine's birth cert -

Born June 5th 1890 at 45 Middleton Place.
Father: James McGunnigal, journeyman bottle blower <<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Mother: Catherine McGunnigal, ms Ferns
Parents' marriage: Dec 24th 1884, Glasgow.

Death of another sibling:

James in 1911 can't be Catherine's father unless his age is wrong - if aged 40 in 1911, he would have been 14 when he married.
