Jane Report 2 Nov 2005 16:17

Hi Tracy, Again many thanks for your detective work. It really is a mystery about the marriage, I´m sure they did marry at some stage but like you say most likely after 1920. I think that the F after Frederick and Catherine stands for Ferris, as at the time of their birth their parents weren´t married. My grandfather Frederick Aldridge was in the Navy during WW1 and on his papers it says first Mrs Eleanor Ferris as friend, before being crossed through and wife added. Hopefully one day I will find the answer. You have been really great, thanks for all the look ups. Jane in now a pitch black Sweden

But on his marriage certificate, (marriage to Emma Luff) he records his father as William Pharo. Can you please check the accuracy of the info and perhaps help add any peices to the puzzle? Colette

Hi Tracy I wonder if you can help me. Is it possible for you to look at the actual page of the 1881 census? I am looking for Alfred Holloway Head aged 21 cellarman Elizabeth Holloway Wife 28 born Maldon Elizabeth Holloway Daughter 6 months. My problem is that I can’t find a marriage between Alfred and Elizabeth ( I have virtually given up hope for this) however although I know this won’t help I’d like to know if Elizabeth’s age is really 28 and born Maldon or whether this could be a transcription error. Incidentally on the 1891 census she calls herself Esther Holloway and on various birth certificates I have she makes her mark as the mother in the name of Esther. A bit long winded this I know but if you could just check the page I would be really grateful. Kindest regards Marion

Hi Tracey this is my original post Perhaps you can help me as I have come to a dead end researching on my father's side of the family. I know that his father Albert Smith was born in Leicester in 1889. I have his marriage certificate in 1911 to Beatrice May Cart but I cannot find his birth certificate. I have found him on the 1901 census aged 11 living with his father George and mother Polly and his 4 siblings but have not been able to find him on 1891 census or his parents on any other census. His father was also born in Leicester but his mother was born in London according to the 19o1 census. I am confused about his mother's name as my father told me that his grandmother was called Dorothy and her maiden name was Howard.I hope you can help with this mystery. Thanks Dot --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Tracey, You really are very kind offering to help everyone - I wonder whether I can place my request at the end of your long queue. I am looking for the death of William Mattless, born February 1844 in Watton, Norfolk. He was still alive when his wife Esther died in October 1895 in Clenchwarton, Norfolk but after that I seem to have lost him!! I can't find him on the 1901 census and his younger children seemed to be living with older siblings at the time which makes me think that he had died. Do you think you can shed any light? Kind regards Julie
