Please could somebody help me. My mother Ethel Buck and her siblings were born in North Hammersmith. Fulham District. When she was five in 1918 her parents split up and they were all placed in a home to await fostering. I would love to know more about it. The home they were in and the records of the time they were there. |

My great grandfather's siblings faced a similar experience. They were sent to the workhouse in Fulham and from there to the school owned by Hammersmith and Fulham, at Ashford in Middlesex. From there they were sent to Canada, never to see their family again. This was in 1882, but I think the system was still in practice in 1918. |

There is an unsourced tree on Ancestry, giving dob of 17/5/11 for Ethel, with parents William Buck 1881-1957 and Grace Adelaide Burgess ?-1941. Valerie has both these people in her tree, so I'm assuming it could be her tree. |

Something else doesn't add up here, William & Grace were still together in 1939 - are on the ERs at 2 Boscombe Road, Hammersmith (and at various other addresses in Hammersmith since 1933). |
