Kathryn, What a strange book to find! Would be grateful if you could check for Jacksons hung for sheep stealing between 1750 and 1824. Family names include Charles James Matthew and John. Possible places are Perthshire or Peebles. Rosemary (Essex)

Unknown Report 30 Jan 2006 23:31

thanks for that Kathryn - chances are he was the same family but an earlier branch!

Dorothy Report 30 Jan 2006 23:37

Kathryn, please , if you aren't too busy, I am curious to see if any of my Scottish rellies have committed any misdemeanors. Can you take a look for any Brash families please. Thanks Dolly.

Kathryn Report 31 Jan 2006 00:46

Hi Dorothy No Brash listed

Kathryn Report 31 Jan 2006 00:48

Hi Rosemary No Jacksons listed however there is a James Jack executed at Glasgow for robbery on 07/07/1784.

Karen Report 31 Jan 2006 05:50

Can you please check for any listings for Huckstep? I can trace my decendants back to 1884- that's as far as i have been so far. But not sure if they came from Scotland or England, but would be interesting to know as it is not a very common surname. Thank you in advance. Karen

Kathryn Report 31 Jan 2006 15:15

Hi Kathryn, Could i ask you to see if any of my rellies where on the wrong side of the law? If you have the time they where Abernethy of Ayr or aberdeenshire, and Goudies of Ayrshire. Thank you regards Kate

Dawn Report 31 Jan 2006 17:03

Kathryn Report 31 Jan 2006 17:16

Hi Kate No rellies on wrong side of law for you either. Kathryn

Sue Report 31 Jan 2006 17:27

Hello and thank you for your kind offer. I would be grateful if you could look up the following 3 surnames: BARNET(T) ARMOUR MAILLIE or MALLIE All of the above would have either been Ayrshire, Glasgow, Dundee or Edinburgh Kind regards Sue

Rosemary Report 31 Jan 2006 17:41

Kathryn, Many thanks for your help. I suppose the sheep stealing could have taken place in England. Perhaps it is just one of those mythical family stories. Rosemary

Kathryn Report 31 Jan 2006 21:38

Hi Sue John Barnet executed at Aberdeen for theft by housebreaking on 06/11/1818. Came from Kirktown of Peterhead. There is more detail which if a match I will post. No Armour. No Maillie or Mallie. Kathryn
