As there are a few Susans'....

Susan is a female given name, a form of Susanna, deriving originally from Middle Egyptian "sšn" (lotus flower), first reported on an 11.Dyn. sarcophagus approximately 2000 B.C. Susan is a very popular name, and variations are found in many languages. However, the Hebrew root for the name for the lily, שושן is derived from the root שוש or ששנ , meaning to be joyful, bright, or cheerful, which is the basis for the word and name ששון Sasson, meaning joy.

The Persian name for lily is sausan. A similar word, shoshan, exists in Hebrew, meaning a type of flower, but the exact type is not known The name of Susa, an ancient city of Persia, may be derived from the lilies which abounded in the plain in which it was situated.

Sooooo. Yers...I would say I am a flower :-))))

Ann....mine is supposed to mean Gracious as well and is supposedly Scottish

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 19 Jul 2009 20:15

Not sure that Gracious applies to me!!!

Just looked it up, one site said Hebrew:- God has favoured me

another said Grace in Hebrew. It is the anglicization of "Hannah". It was a favourite and remained so until the mid-19th century. Today, it is still more common as a middle name.

oooh thanks Gwyn !

" Your First Name of: Rosemary

The name of Rosemary creates a happy, versatile, and expressive nature, with good business judgment and a fine sense of responsibility, which should enable you to establish congenial relationships in positions of trust where you are dealing with the public.

You have a clever, quick mind, with the ability to accomplish a great deal in a short period of time, although it is not easy for you to systematize your efforts.

This name could allow expression along musical and artistic lines and gives you the desire to entertain and to meet and mix with people of refinement and culture.

Although the name Rosemary creates the urge to be self-expressive and happy, we emphasize that without overall harmony with a balanced last name, it can cause intolerance and impatience.

This name, when combined with an unbalanced last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the liver and bloodstream, worry, and mental tension."

what is interesting to me is the difference between Rosemary and Rose (Rosie)...
I am usually known now as Rose or Rosie

"Your first name of Rosie has given you a quick-minded, sensitive nature.

It gives you a clever, creative ability in art, music, singing, or drama and an appreciation for refined surroundings.

Your sociable nature expresses affection, kindness, and thoughtfulness to the extent that it is difficult for you not to be affected by others and governed by your emotions, rather than by logic and reason.

As you respond to love and encouragement from others, your romantic and dreamy nature can easily lead you into love affairs.

Although the name Rosie creates the urge to understand others, we point out that it causes you to be emotional and temperamental.

This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the fluid systems, liver and the bloodstream."
