there is also one other point of contention about some blue badge holders, they never read the hand book that comes with it and think they can park where ever they like, which is not true and they can get nicked for it just the same as others.**M**.

Very true Ann but that would be logical & when it comes to Disabilities temporary or permanent all logic goes out of the window :(

I do wish they'd be more flexible with spaces though. I often go to the supermarket after 9.00pm.........never seen a soul in the disabled or parent and child spaces, yet I still have to park away from the store. I just think a few of these spaces could be limited to 'not after 9.00pm' without causing any problem.

Also, sadly there is no provision for the temporarily disabled!! They are just expected to struggle.

I think this is a bit of a catch 22

I do think its unfair for a Blue Badge holder to use a Parent & Child space the same way i think its unfair for a parent to use the Parent & Child when thy don't have the Child with them.......Which i did say to someone once had they left their child in the shop lol.

I have a Blue Badge for my Daughter & i very rarely park in disabled or Parent & Child space

I have a blue badge... I always carry it, and generally only use it when I feel rough...... on a good day, like today... I park as far away as possible, cos the exercise is good for me... I was going to hand mine back... but was told no, not until I've been in remission for a year... which will be about when it is up for review, anyway...

Last week, I was ok, too.... we walked past the disabled bay, which was full.... 8 spots in that bit... only 3 had badges, four didn't.... and one of those four parked so badly that they had taken up two spots... now how is that for ignorance!!

Another pet hate... Asda have designated spots out front.... for emergency vehicles... and they are always filled by those folk who run in quickly... or go to the cashpoint... it makes my blood boil!! It is clearly marked.... with those *box* markings and letters a mile tall saying..... DO NOT PARK lol!!

rant over

I complained about a car once - in a parent and child one - when O was still in a carry car seat thingy - to the customer service desk, she parked and walked off whilst I was circling looking for one! They called the car owner - who said she was disabled and there were no disabled spaces. I suggested that the customer service desk went and checked the cars parked in the disabled spaces and call the owners who were not displaying blue badges (btw - the woman hadn't displayed her badge - although she had it with her!) they didn't....!

I have to say Morrisons here is really good. If you complain, security get someone to move their car, and they give a public telling off!

i often park in the mother and child spaces when the disabled places are full, the guy in the carpark always smiles at me when i put my bluebadge on show. no one has ever complained about me doing this.

Ihave a theory on that.

You see, the manager of the supermarket, is probably a weasly bloke, who would find it far easier to confront a disabled person for parking in a parent and child space, than to confront an able bodied person for parking in a disabled space. Get the gist?

maybe I was misunderstood, Sue used the phrase
" Equal Rights"
I just picked up on that, and No I wouldnt deny you the access that badge holding gives you.

Good for you SueM....I know parking is a nightmare, its an old market town, built WAY before cars.....! you cannot just leave the car at the side of the road for a minute - cos that gridlocks the whole town....

Of course you have as much right to go shopping as anyone else, and need to be able to park - I can park in any of the car parks and walk to wherever shop I want...shove O in a buggy and its easier again, there is limited parking for disabled, how dare others park there.....and delivery drivers....grrrrrrrrrrr!

I do not have a blue badge - therefore i have NO RIGHT to park in a disabled bay. I have a child under 5 - therefore I can park in the parent and child space in t***** cos thats what their rules say (for what they're worth) but often don't cos O is mobile....!

ok....rant over! xxx

Bob...........it's not a request to be treated differently it's the need to try & stay normal & live life as near the same as anyone else.
Disabilities steal your life if you let them.
