I have just found the death cert of my husbands gr gr grandfather on scotlands people.
Cause of death Fracture of skull, ribs and arm. Rupture of liver and haemorrage into pertitoneum- Post Mortem results.

Trouble is I cant read the place of death, although I can make out Argyle St at Bunhouse Road, Glasgow then something about an ambulance then .....Infirmary.
He was 79 - awww.

All very interesting. Anyone have access to the papaers from Glasgow Nov 1930??

If it was today I would say this was a road traffic accident, but with it being 1930, I'm not so sure.

I would think they would report it in a newsapaper if it was an accident and also if he had to have a PM.

Just had a look on a Genuki site (As advised by Rambling Rose on Tips board) and the local FHS charge £15 to do small research.

Wish my husband was a celeb, WDYTYA might have done this for us!!

My wife's great grandfather was knocked off his bike and killed in 1928.

The local libary dug out the report of the inquest in the local rag for us.

1 Bunhouse road is now the Transport Museum in Glasgow. How ironic it would be if it was a transport accident. There were also tramcars in Glasgow during this time Also Kelvin Hall is in the same area. I dont know what it used to be in 1930.

I need to get my hands on the news paper report. Its so frustrating to be so far away from it.

microfilm copies of the Evening Times from 1877,

Bulletin 1915 to 1960,

Evening Citizen 1877 to 1974,

Sunday Mail from 1919,

the Daily Record from 1895 and

the Glasgow Herald from 1790.
The Herald (as it is now known) is the only paper which is indexed and the quality of this is varied; from 1889 to 1905 an annual manuscript index is available (sometimes difficult to read); from 1906 to 1984 an annual index was published; from 1985 a good card index is available.

Hi Rose...I pm'd LL as I have an old bookmark about newspapers, not too sure if it covers Scotland.
I haven't nudged it up yet as it could be off the page by the time LL gets back.

Just found a register of corrected entry on scotlands people for my guy, telling me the place & cause of death and I still cant read it all. The handwriting is dreadful.

All I can get is: Injuries sustained by being struck and ......................per verdict of jury.

I wish I could copy it to you so someone could decipher it!

Im supposed to be at home ill. I have been confined to my bedroom for the last 3 days with what was supposed to be Swine flu. Either the Tamiflu is very good or I didnt have it in the first place!

Yes, I think it's fascinating to discover accidents through research, but sad for the victims of course. One of my ancestors was killed by a "runaway dray horse" in 1913 (he was about 90 years old and liked to sit in his chair on the roadside!). Another GR member kindly sent me info from the inquest.

Also just discovered my G.Grandfather fractured his skull & died accidentally falling off a "fore and aft gangway" at the Royal Albert Dock, Woolwich. Death cert even says it took 20 mins (to die, presumably) - poor man, he was only 43.

My great-grandfather had a grisly death and I'm sure it would have been in the local paper. I know they do searches for about £25 to £30, I just haven't got round to asking them yet!
