Do you suffer from this complaint? if so your not alone,99% of females over the age of 40 suffer with it too:-))

mardy is a word we use in Yorkshire..don't know where it originated from..

I know my friends from Liverpool used to use it to mean miserable or sour faced.......usually to their chilren if they were grizzling.......

.....me, mardy?.......never........well, not much anyway...... :0))

Yes I can be a right old mardy cow. And I'll be 42 tomorrow and I'm a Yorkie so it all fits.

But most of the time I am a very good sweet and nice little lass.

Mardy is used in Staffs and Derbys as well.

I found this definition:

Mardy (rhymes with 'hardy') adj., n.; colloquial, dialect

Uses

'Mardy' is a word that, although extremely descriptive and very useful, is not widely known outside the Midlands region of the United Kingdom. It should be.

Because it is not widely used, 'mardy' is difficult to describe to non-users, its meaning being quite elusive. Context helps, though:

One can be a mardy cow
One can be in a mardy
And no one would want you to have a mardy on them
Definitions

Any clearer? Well, 'stroppy' would be similar, as would 'to have a strop', but it's a bit too aggressive and sulky. Mardy has much more of a whine to it. 'Tantrum' isn't really applicable, since mardies are more likely to be ignored/shoved into the corner than to cause a scene.

The word "mard" was sometimes used in my Cheshire/Lancs environments! Sort of in a context if you complained you was cold, "oh stop being so mard!). Seems to be a north of England expression.

Mmm i use "crabby" sometimes , not sure i have heard of crabbit maybe it's a derivative?
