all over my garden. How do I get rid of the little critters humanely? Any ideas please? xx

I know how to get rid of them. You will have to redesign your garden after the dust settles though.

Have you tried putting a 'no moles allowed' sign on the lawn?

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 4 Jul 2010 18:59

They're too short sighted to read the signs Eldrick I think :0)

Eldrick Report 4 Jul 2010 19:00

Have you tried putting broken glass in their holes?

(leaves the gate wide open for the comeback......)

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 4 Jul 2010 19:07

No but I have been known to do that before with the rat holes when they appeared in the chicken shed....it didn't deter them lol .

xx

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 4 Jul 2010 19:08

How did you catch them in the first place then?

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 4 Jul 2010 19:11

I didn't catch them..they used to burrow up through the earth...resorted to traps in the end as it was the only thing that worked with the rats x x

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 4 Jul 2010 19:13

I think you're missing it, lol

Mothballs placed in the run are very effective - moles detest them, but no idea where you would find mothballs these days.

Don't whatever you do buy one of those things you put batteries in and stick in the ground where the tunnels are........we did and they tunneled straight past it!!!!

A molecatcher told me that even if you get rid of them, other moles will use the tunnels and take over the territory after a few months. The tunnels near the surface are only feeding tunnels, they have other tunnels that are deeper down. If you use humane traps, they are liable to die if you don't find them quickly as they are very easily stressed.

They tend to follow boundary lines and ours went all along the path and under the patio and all around the bungalow walls, then along the path in the front garden. All our slabs need relaying!!!

You can get a foul smelling liquid called Renardine from garden centres. You soak a rag and put it in the tunnel and they don't like the smell so clear off! In theory anyway. Be careful with it though. My OH couldn't open it and managed to ruin a new white t shirt when he spilt it down him!!!! Good luck.
