i just about remember in the 50s at school, think it was in the afternoon, we would all sit round the radio to listern to a story, no idea what program it was.

Listen with Mother, was on steam radio at 1.45 singing and short story introduced by Daphne Oxenford I think - must google - followed from 2 - 3 pm by Woman's Hour.

Do you also remember Children's Hour 5 - 5.55 weekday afternoons, Toytown, Nursery Sing-song with Auntie Vi (Carson), weekly story slots of Jennings at School, Eagle of the Ninth, etc and I think every Tuesday was a Nature programme about flowers and fauna.

I´ve always said that the Spanish live in the past, but the local hotel has just been playing The Singing Nun, singing Dominique.
I know that was a bit more recent than the ones you are discussing, but it must be 50 years old surely.

Hi do you remember Ragtag and Bobtail on telly Andy Pandy my favourite the Woodentops we only had an hour of kids telly then so looked forward to it sat with my brother good times!

If you think back to children's hour then and listening to all the stories, Just William, Ballet Shoes, Jennings, Anne of Green Gables and others, didn't it in a way seem more real to you than now when you watch these things on TV. The story was individual to you because what happened was in your imagination.

Is there anyone still alive, apart from me, who remembers "Dick Barton - Special Agent"?
and "Dan Dare" on the wireless?

My father insisted that we all sat at the table and listened to the Archers in silence whilst we ate our evening meal.

edit - just looked up the show - it was broadcast from 1946 - 1967!
Still don't remember listening to it - but I think my brother was on in the 1950's - he was about 6.
