A new report has now come in stating the police shot Moat with a taser before he fired his own weapon, it has also be stated there were sound of a man in crying in pain before any bullets were fired. Northumbrian police have refused to comment and the matter has now gone to IPCC. An ambulance was not called for Moat until half an hour had elapsed.

ஐ+*¨^¨*+e+*¨^¨*+ஐ Mildred Honkinbottom Report 10 Jul 2010 15:20

The police fired a taser but nothing has been officially disclosed if it was fired before or after Moat shot himself.

BTW quote from BBC news online

"Paramedics were quickly on the scene and Moat was taken by ambulance to Newcastle General Hospital - accompanied by two police cars - but died shortly after arriving."

IMHO I think he would have shot himself anyhow - he played cat & mouse for long enough making threats towards the police & general public

I'm just glad he never took anyone else with him last night.

Wrong, read different news online they are all just getting the news in about this, and taser experts are saying that a taser gun fired at a victim makes that victim make 'involuntary' movements, as in a finger jolt and his gun went off.

How sad this whole situation is I'm glad its over just which a different solution coulda been found in the end, but he can't hurt no-one else

Didnt you watch Sky last night then Gill. Sky reported the ambulance go in about 20mins after he had been spotted and surrounded by officers ,,,,,,,ask Sky for a replay of their reporting,,,it was already in place..!

None of us know if RM had aimed the gun at any officers before the Tazer,

Paramedics and ambulance have been on standby NEAR the scene throughout and called TO the scene as soon as he was discovered... no calling for one required. Maybe another was needed elsewhere... who knows.

Tasering is a method used to shock, and distract temporarily, to allow time for disarming and taking into custody. It is done as a last resort to SAVE life where someone looks as though they might be actually about to take their own.

They had him in their sights and could have killed him at any time, so to suggest a sinister reason for tasering is just ridiculous, in my opinion... which of course I am entitled to hold.

He was either about to take his own life, and an attempt to prevent him was made... a last ditch attempt to save him... or he was about to shoot at someone in the vicinity...a policeman... they could have shot him, at any time, they chose to try something less lethal.

All supposition... but even an idiot can see that to use a taser was the lesser of the two choices, and a brave final attempt by the police to avert Moat's death.

That is admirable. And very very brave. The twitchy trigger finger may have been aimed at an officer.

Edit to add: We will know soon enough, as your title shows.... we are still all just guessing... no hard facts.... not even from your taser *expert* lol... I do wonder if this might be an expert in theory, and not in fact... yet another boring old armchair wet behind the ears University don type of expert... got sick of those years ago. So often proven wrong.

MrDaff Report 10 Jul 2010 15:58

Oh... and it is automatic that a report is sent to the IPCC... it is done as a matter of course these days.... I thought we all knew that?

Rambling Report 10 Jul 2010 16:20

As I understood it from watching last night, the taser was not used up to that point ( though they were available) because he was lying down...both 'prongs'
( thats what they called them ) of the taser have to make contact with the body simultaneously when fired for it to be effective, difficult on someone prone, in pouring rain.

If the police had thought it viable i am sure they would have used it earlier...that they did, suggests the situation had reached an 'either/ or' point, where some action had to be taken.

Very sad all round.

My one comment at the very start of this was...."He will kill himself" its the usual end to this sort of thing.

I think the police as always did a wonderful job, he shot himself he had over 6 hours to surrender , in my opinion the police are in no way responsible for that mans dealth.

Agree with Soft as, it was inevitable, and as Hayley states the police could have done no more. Just sorry for his children, but they are probably better off without a father like that.

There is a big difference in pulling a trigger yourself and being forced to do it by a taser gun shooting through you!

Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 10 Jul 2010 18:39

Tell that to poor man he killed and to mother of his own child who he shot to kill and also the poor police officer who was shot in the face, this selfish waste of a human being didnt deserve the chance he was given talk about milk of human kindness, we all know you are very anti police you make no secret of it but please before you go accusing please be sure of all your facts not some scum, police hating site on the internet ,so no doubt they are damed if the do and damed if they dont.

well i think they did the right thing, it was obvios he wasnt gona just come in quietly and he was a threat tot he police and the public for 7 days lets not forget his victims, even if they did tazer him caursing him to kill himself, if HE hadnt put himself in that situation and been a murdering criminal they wouldnt have been there with tazers or guns to reprimand him xxx

UzziAndHerDogs Report 10 Jul 2010 19:45

In the end of it all he shot himself .
If he hadn't he was going to prison for life, at least this way he is saving the country money.

Yes the police will be slaughtered by the press, did they didn't they, but show me who wanted him on the loose.
DID YOU? No so the only other thing was to lock him up for good.

ps and should your money be spent on keeping him in prison or on the community

His finger was on the trigger - he pulled it & killed himself - his choice as it was his choice to hold the gun to his head / neck.

And his choice to murder a fellow human being, injure others then go on to taunt & threaten the police and general public, putting fear into the hearts of people who no doubt worried for their own safety and that of their families.

Better to fire the Taser than to give him the split second chance to end another persons life.

I say well done to the police, they stopped the possible deaths of more innocent people., .

Moat was not the victim, those he killed are.

I thought if the taser was fired wouldnt it be to shock him to knock teh gun out of his hands?

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 10 Jul 2010 20:22

Hayley I thought that also that the taser would have paralized him, could a reaction have pulled the trigger. who really cares. So better he shot himself as he did

Patricia

Patricia Report 10 Jul 2010 20:23

Hayley..
Thats what my son has just said ...training to be police officer..!!

Volts from a tazer would have paralized him.

Gill if he was pointing at a gun at any of your family wouldn't you wanted them to have used it.

"Moat was not the victim, those he killed are."
