Alfred John Ball was born to John Josiah Ball 1857 – 1928 &
Eliza Uden b. 1860.
Alfred John Ball, Q3 1889, Camberwell, Vol. 1d, Page 940. 1891 Census - Alfred John Ball, son, aged 1, b.abt. 1890, Camberwell, living at Sched. 24, No. 3, Glengall Road, Camberwell. Scholar. (aged 1?).
1901 Census - Alfred J Ball, son, single, aged 11, b.abt 1890, Camberwell, living at Sched. 272, No. 244, Barry Road, Camberwell.
1911 Census - Not at home!

His Royal Engineer's Army record may not have survived – not found?
Death Index: Possibly abt. 1922-24.
He fell out of a tree trying to fix up a radio aerial.
He died in Guy's Hospital.

In the first World War he married a Suzanne LaCuisine? at Albert, near Amiens. No record has been found.
On returning to the UK they had two children:
Kathleen M Ball, Q4 1917, Bromley, Vol. 2a, Page 778. Mmn. Cousins (Could be Cousine or Cuisine).
Then:
Francine J Ball, Q1 1920, Bromley, Vol. 2a, Page 1412. Mmn. Lacuisine. GRO Certificate applied for.
They may have lived at 90 Devonshire Road, Bromley (Lewisham) Kent.
I am interested to know if anyone can access the Electoral Rolls for the period 1918 to 1924 for that area?
In about 1922 – 24 he died after falling out of a tree.
Shortly afterwards, his wife and daughters moved back to Rouen in France where his wife remarried and moved to Lyon.
No trace of them or their French Records have yet been found.

As I live in the south of France and find it difficult to visit the UK, I am hoping that some kind soul can assist with viewing the electoral roll’s which may well then assist in finding this particular A J BALL’s death certificate.

No luck with Freebmd or Ancestry for a likely death between 1919 up to 1930 which is strange...hope someone will be able to find on electoral roll for you.

I looked at that one Choccy...and I think you're right...just thinking about it if he had died in Bromley, he would not have been taken to Guys...but certainly would in Southwark!

Think the only way you'll prove it is to get the certificate.

You could take a look here ? The Southwark local history library...but you need an address... I would just take a chance on the cert' as Choccy says

I have searched too 2 years either side of 1923 and the Southwark one is the strongest possibility. On the strength of this I would certainly buy the certificate.

Edit: His baptism was in Southwark too

3 Glengall Road. Old Kent Road

The baptism was Oct 6 1889 In the Parish of St Stephen's Walworth

He became a Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers serving at Galapoli, Egypt and France. I have not found his war records though only his Medal Card?

I see that St Stephen at Walworth Common was a Mission. Alfred John's grandfather William John Ball 1826-1919 was a City Missionary. Maybe he was baptised by his grandfather? Does it say? Jim

His brother William Ernest Ball married Rosina Mary Thornton in 1913 Southwark, so the connection is there.
