D'oh Rose - if you have solid walls, fill in the previous holes and make your own to the side!
If you're using picture hanging nails, put them in at an angle \ similar to that!

I've consulted my Book of Handy Hints for the DIY Novice and I've found an answer for you, Rose.

If your pins are too short to reach the holes - try standing on a ladder.

(if you need the handy diagram of a ladder, I can send it to you)

lol Foggy, in this case you might be right ;) The walls here are solid as a rock and putting up pictures is a nighmare, so as to make no new holes I'm using the ones alrready made by the owner and probably the pins are just too short.

Rose.....lol.....it could be your DIY skills need attending to, ( how to make a secure fixing into a wall )...LOL

Sorry Rose, I hadn't realised that the picture had fallen on your already-broken foot and damaged its protective casing.

That's not plaster fatigue - it's a case of cast-off

Could well be Suzian lol, I blame ....erm who can I blame ?!

Actually I'm going to make an appointment at the doctors when I can so maybe it WAS a warning :( can't I just conclude it was 'plaster fatigue' instead ?

It's all that snorting that sent the thing tumbling down in the first place, Rose!

Mmmmmmm quoth the old soothsayer

Walls are symbols of permanence. When we mere mortals attach something to them, we are hoping that that image will assume the same permanence.

But ..... woe betide that the walls should reject our overtures. Perchance it could fling our transitory offerings away - usually under cover of darkness (walls being creatures of the night).

There's only one solution in the soothsayer's guide.

Let the walls know who's the master. Shout at them. Tell them loudly that you will not, under any circumstances, tolerate such aberrant behaviour.

Repeat after me .........

"WALLS, I SCREAM"

If a mirror falls off a wall and breaks, this means a death. If it doesn't break it means someone close will end up in hospital. :-)))

The picture could mean the same....in this case whatever is associated with it will be involved.

GypsyRoseSusan at your service :-)))))

Sorry Rose, it's a word I saw in a dictionary once, not something I do - because it can make pictures fall off walls!!

Maggie...dusting? what's that? lol

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 22 Aug 2010 11:55

Ah - but there could be a reason after a year (apart from loud music).
Every time you walk past or dust a picture, it moves!
This could either slowly wear away the string (if that's what's holding it), it could make the hooks (either on the back or the wall) slowly loosen, or could make the picture gradually move towards the edge of the hanging hook.

Rambling Report 22 Aug 2010 11:25

well that's what I would say too Maggie, only that it is has been there a year with no bother, and no 'reason' why it would suddenly go after that.
