There are other unelected leaders I wouldn't welcome as well, but I thought this thread was about the pope.

What about other 'undesirable' world leaders who have had State visits to the UK in the past?

I don't think his being in the Hitker youth is especially damning ( there are other things that are but not that )

He was conscripted to it as all boys of that age were , was not an enthusiastic member, his father was not a Nazi supporter and his own cousin with Downs syndrome was apparently a victim of the campaign to kill off those with disabilities.

Pope Benedict XVI was a Former Hitler Youth.
.. Hitler Youth defended Hitlers Bunker On April 30, 1945,
as the Russians advanced ..

Yes, they were, Cass.... there was talk of Blair converting around the time Leo was born I think as well.... and of course all those other things going on.... I broke my heart the day he was elected, I felt as though we'd put the devil himself in charge.

So he sat on a lot in order to stay in power... still, rather him than Brown.

Chris, I know... but he timed all the leaks quite well... in order to take the heat away from other areas?

You do not follow a deeply held belief out of expediency....but out of conviction, and so why all these little reports and leaks? To suit himself?

Far to controlling an manipulative.

He also needed to get his main meal ticket sorted... Cherie's little baby, the Human Rights thingummy in it's entirety... oh and guess who has earned a very very pretty penny out of it?? Yep.... Cherie again. I do not like this couple... although I know they have good points, I don't even want to hear them, lolol

Yes,That's correct.

ChrisofWessex Report 17 Sep 2010 12:48

But Blair regularly accompanied his wife and family to mass etc after he was elected PM

Cassidy

Cassidy Report 17 Sep 2010 12:46

Hi Daff,Not 100% sure,but...Blair's wife and children were already practising Catholic's prior to him becoming PM.

The problem was that he could'nt divulge his faith in a predominantly non Catholic U.K.He may have not received the vote's to get into power.

Do you remember the Alistair Campbell's quip......'we don't do God here'.

His timing was immmaculate as his popularity was on the downturn after the Invasion of Iraq,in 2003.

As said by Ed Balls..'we wanted him to resign/hand over the Labour leadership in 2004'.

And yes,His ambition was to become President of Europe.

Thank you Barbra.... I am doing quite well, but get tired easily....

Cass, that makes absolute sense... and now I vaguely remember.... now, this is from memory, so please feel free to shoot me down in flames (I was busy that year with a hubby away, a sister having chemo, etc etc etc... so my memory might be up the Swanneee)

So here goes..... wasn't it about the same time that Blair began to go to Bible Classes in preparation for turning to Catholicism? It was said that he did it to get more ticks in the box when he was running for the role of *President Blair* and so wouldn't need the Queen's backing, just the Pope's.

Also... Look at Europe... I believe that the Papacy has a lot of influence there, when it comes to religion... it would be no different to the interference by the C of E into the Monarchy and political thingy ma bobs here in the UK.

This current pope refuses to discuss those issues regarded as femail orientated, though, did you know that. Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

The original invite was from Tony Blair,in 2004.

In 2007,Gordon Brown [non Catholic],again, repeated the invite.

Cass

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 17 Sep 2010 09:06

From what I can gather, the invite had to be from one Head of State to Another... so Queen to Pope is the correct procedure. And because the Queen is Cof E the formal bits were arranged for Scotland. But the origional idea was from Brown..., not the Queen... I think!

The taxpayer shouldn't pay.

The original ideas man should, (Brown, is he Catholic, by the way) and so should the Catholic Church, living in luxury while billions of catholics in the third world (woman and children, in the main) are repressed, controlled, manipulated and brutalized by the *teachings* of a bunch of control freaks wearing hats that would feed whole villages for a 12 month, and ACTIVELY turning a blind eye to the dreadful things that go on...

I am now bloody exhausted, and want to rant on, but can't

Take care

Can't say I'm moved.

Annoyed at how much it's costing our local police authority, for sure. Pleanty of tickets left unsold for the Brum do and roads and park closed for nearly a week. Very annoyed residents on the local news.

It's costing even more than it should because they moved the venue from Coventry when they realised he wouldn't fill the place like the last pope did. However, money had already been spent setting it up, I hope the church has the good manners to repay it.

I'm sure those who attended and saw him its been a priceless day for them..!!!

The other old pope wouldnt reconise/admit either there was any wrong doings within church nor the one before him denial has been going on for years and any complaints were met with disdain and utter belief.

I understood the he came on the queens invite?

£12,000 spent in Edinburgh to move the tram that was sitting in the middle of Princes street to one end so that no-one could use it to hide in and everyone got a good view. Guess who picked up the tab for that.
