In my family there are two women whose forenames are Archesidella. Has anyone ever heard / seen that name before? I have a suspicion it may be a gyspy name. I can't find out its origin. |

I think that is more likely an inability to spell. |

Thank you everyone. I tried Googling the name but only came up with an Indian male name, Archis. |

I have hoardes of gypsies in my tree but dont recognise the name, it may be slightly mistranscribed? Or made up? Have you got access to the 1911 census? Other clues to gypsy heritage are occupations, gypsy surnames, and where/how they were living. |

No other clues. She married a miner and her name was Brookes before marriage. I have now discovered other women with the name (different spellings) spead over the West Midlands area where she lived and wonder if they might be connected. One is an Archisadella Deakin whose name I found in an article from a Shropshire newspaper about a woman convicted of stealing turnips. I'm told Deakin is a gypsy name. |

Yes, there are several variations, and indications that they travel in families. ;) |
