i went to get some petrol tonight and shock horror! it has gone up to £1.32. where i live in rural hebrides, a car is a neccessity not a luxury. i only go to town once a week and do everything on that day.bank, shopping and anything else.it did cost me £10.00 for the trip and now has just gone up a bit more. when is it going to stop.

how much do you pay peeps and i wonder where the cheapest and most expensive areas are?

Looking at the sites it seems N. Ireland is the dearest place for fuel. We have an oil fired boiler and usually buy 2300 ltrs which costs over £1000.00..........so OH came up with the bright idea of purchasing 1200 in the hope that come the spring the prices will be down again........guess who will get a good nagging if his prediction is wrong!

There is a site which tells you prices in your area - where the best buy is. Two separate branches of Tesco both 4-5 miles away from us give diferent prices - one is higher because its classified as a city!

Florence61 Report 21 Oct 2010 23:47

mick, you're right, ridiculous for that price we could all have a car each in this family!!

ann we also have oil fired boiler. our tank is 1200 litres. i have just bought 600 litres for 52pence per litre, about £320.00. so that would be £1280.compared to your £1000.00. quite a difference.

we also have an open fire and burn peat and coal. had a lovely fire on tonight,it was so bitterly cold outside, really cosy indoors!

Annx Report 22 Oct 2010 00:27

Diesel was £117.5p at our As*a tonight. This is the site where you can find the cheapest near where you live.

I cant believe you still use oil for heating over there!

We all changed over to natural gas during the huge price rises in the 1970s!

Annie from NZ

Annie from NZ Report 22 Oct 2010 02:38

Here in NZ currently unleaded is approx $1.85 per litre and diesel is approx $1.25 per litre.

The price has recently gone up for us cos the government in its infinite wisdom decided to increase the excise tax on fuel and there is talk of it increasing further prior to christmas. OH reckons it will be $2.00 a litre by then.

Here in north Devon we're almost at the point where it is cheaper to go into the co-op store and buy a trolley of cooking oil to fill up the Landie.
I reckon the VAT rise in january will just about do it.
