I've just managed to track my family history back to King Edward I, and so far my tree goes back to King William I, WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR |

I'm sure my ancestors were very important - on one side working as ag.labs in a small village and working for the 'lord of the manor'! |

Genealogists/statisticians have worked out that everyone of European descent is almost certainly related to Charlemagne, King of the Franks, who was crowned Emperor on December 25, 800. |

There's a laddo comes on the TTF board occassionally and he thinks he is related/descended from every royal family in Europe, or so it seems, and I have never heard of half of them. LOL |

I have a splendid note against one of my ancestors in an inherited family tree - her father "was descended from Thomas Lord Holland and through his ancestors from Thomas Plantagenet son of Edward I by Margaret daughter of Philip le Hardi King of France" . I haven't attempted to verify any of this! but it obviously really really mattered! |

Ah ha. My friend IS descended from the Vikings! lol Her family featured on the recent tv programme about Kibworth. Merton College owned a lot of the land there and their records have survived. She found out her family was cultivating a piece of the 'strip' system land as far back as 1265. Just fancy, in one summer she has got back to 1265 and I have been doing my FH for about 5 years and can't get back further than 1645. lol |

Wow Ann, that's fascinating. Mind you I've been researching my family tree for over 10 years now and hadn't got back as far as you until recently and even then it's not based on parish records. Well done! |
