In reply to nickydownsouth.. susan had a sister called elizabeth b.1824 in doddington essex so theres a big possibility that she did marry a johns and have a child called emily .. and i see you found a possibiity for 1851 which would be about right as she wouldof been about 27 at the time ..also i see u list susan as having 3 children in the ongar work house, i have only ever been able to link her with two children .. elizabeth and ernest ...but no emily, is there a birth record for her? or does it say the relationship between susan and emily on the census? i have been unable to find out any of this so im very pleased thnk you very much indeed ..

Think theres a good chance that Elizabeth Susan Weal is the daughter of Susan Weal born c1839 Doddinghurst Essex, daughter of James and Susan in the 1851 I posted above.

There is a Susan Weal {unmarried} with children Emily, Elizabeth Born Kelvedon and Earnest in the Ongar union workhouse in 1871.

In 1881 Elizabeth is a domestic servant, Earnest is a farm labourer and Susan and Emily are still in the workhouse.

In 1891 Susan is in the Union house in Ongar ,but is described as a patient rather than an Inmate as she was in the previous census`s.

Can`t find Susan in 1901.

In 1911 Susan is living with a niece Emily Johns born Leytonstone Essex c 1853, both are unmarried.

Emily is the daughter of Henry { born cornwall}and Elizabeth Johns { who was born in Doddinghurst Essex according to the 1861 census.

I have looked for a marriage between Henry Johns and Elizabeth Weal { thinking that Elizabeth may be the sister of Susan} but have been unable to find one.

So you think Elizabeth Susan Weals mother is the sister of James??

I think your best bet would be to get Elizabeth Susans birth cert... this will give her mothers name, the address may match as address that James or his parents are at in 1861 census.... that would confirm your supiscions...

THANKS FOR ALL UR REPLIES ... I HAD TO RUSH AWAY FROM MY PC EARLIER .....THEIR NAMES WERE THOMAS WEAL AND ELIZABETH SUSAN WEAL ... HIS FATHER IS NAMED AS JAMES WEAL FROM DODDINGHURST AND IVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO TRACE RECORDS OF ONE OTHER JAMES WEAL BORN THE SAME YEAR ... I DIDNT KNOW I COULD VIEW THE ORIGINAL CERTS WITH SIGNITURES ON . .THIS IS A GOOD IDEA .. HOW DO I DO THAT?

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 5 May 2011 10:35

Don't forget that they would often give the same address even if they weren't actually both living there - something to do with fees possibly, if one really lived in a different parish.

Comparing signatures is a good idea, but you'd have to get hold of a copy of the PR as the GRO certs are transcribed.

Have you been able to find either people with the same name living elsewhere on successive census, just in case it was a name con-incidence? But the deaf/dumb notation does make it seem more likely you have the right people.

Does anyone know when we will be able to see the disability column on the 1911? That might clinch it.

The address may be the same which is handy but like nickdownsouth says is it the same street or same area and have you traced the amrriages of the uncles and their siblings
