I am looking for serious suggestions for something to interest my OH when he is sitting down to rest. He doesnt want to keep dropping off to sleep, doesnt watch much TV and doesnt read. Help would be appreciated. Will not be here again until tomorrow. Just remembered I washed the bedding today and havent yet made the bed!

Puzzle books, sudoku, jigsaws, computer stuff.

I know it may sound daft but my friends OH who had to rest a lot did 1000 piece jigsaws ( on a board) and then when finished mounted them as pictures for friends, he chose jigsaws of subjects that interested him, steam trains, boats etc.

I got my husband interested in fishing. BUT I have to go along as well which is not a problem for me but I appreciate its not everyone's cup of tea. How old is he? is he retired or is this just an evening thing?

My fil helps my son make airfix type models, in fact I think fil enjoys it more than my 12 year old.

Its somthing that can be done in small stages as well.

how about a matchstick kit bag full of sticks and glue plus a plan to glue on they are not hard but enjoyable...,,,,,,,all sorts of designs to build and stick,,,,,and varnish if you want...

jewellery boxes are nice made from them plus you can make them musical,make nice presents.or picture frames,clocks.

any movements can be got from the Hobbyist magazine or good craft shop.....

Edit--plus it doesnt matter like ajigsaw if you lose a few sticks as you get masses,,,,and once glued in place they wont fall off...... :-D :-D

How about embroidery/tapestry, maybe using wool rather than fiddly embroidery thread.
Knitting?

TV video/computer games perhaps, what red blooded male wouldn’t like to spend some time with Lara Croft!

Mind you he won’t do much resting, video games can really get the adrenaline going, I often end up shouting expletives at the character on screen for failing to complete a task, even though of course I’m the one pushing the buttons! ;-)

I agree I couldn't be doing with those little screens, I always play on the computer, must say I fancy hooking it up to the widescreen TV, but the Mrs is usually catching up on Gardeners world and Countryfile on the main TV while I am relegated to the office!

Mayfield, mine won't touch the computer and has no inerest in famhistory. he does crosswords a lot. We like to watch Country file together.
But this is no help to Jean is it.
Jean, Is there anything you do that he can 'help' you with, like mine used to sort threads for me. and then got involved in the sewing. or would he try Painting by numbers, or scraper foil designs. There are some lovely small designs about, just to give him a feeling of achievement. none of these would involve any exercise if he is supposed to rest.

I hope you can get him interested in something, as he will get really depressed if he just sits there all day, and that won't be good for either of you.

or he could set up a club for OH that have nothing to do.lol. :-D :-D

Is it your husband that is seeking suggestions for interests or is it yourself ?

From what you have written it seems that he doesn't have much motivation to take up a hobby.

Obviously I don't know you or your husband but if he is has no interests outside the home he may be depressed.

I see that others have offered suggestions so maybe they know your situation.

If you think he may be interested on playing 'Scrabble' on the computer I would gladly post to you, as the copy I have I cannot use it on Windows 7.

Get an allotment my OH has had a new lease of life since getting one. There is a whole community behind those gates and he spends hours in the evening chatting down there.

Thanks for suggestions, will try and interest him in a few of them. He is nearly 76, has worked hard all his life and cant understand why he now feels tired in the afternoons. He also has to give his back a rest at some point in theday. I was looking for something to hlod his interest when he is sitting as he doesnt want to go to sleep , doesnt then sleep well at night.

How about making peggy rugs? He could do that while sitting,and make something useful.

Nothing wrong in a catnap for an hour or so after lunch and then he should sleep at night.
