late night bored board searching ... for the duplicate thread ...

look what I found ... and Rambling Rose asked that I post here as well as on Genealogy Chat, it isn't a duplicate because it is a link to a different board ! :-)

like looking in a mirror, isn't it ?

Note - Apologies, but I have had to delete the url linking to the test Find My Past site in ths post. This site is not supposed to be available to members as it is where new features are built and tested. Katie - The Genes Team

Eeek, bit creepy isn't it. Definitely an explanation needed.

Why are all of teh posts on Find my Past??,....a bit strange!

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 25 Jul 2011 02:35

it seems to be a 'development' site that could just be for testing out changes to this site ... could involve a plan to amalgamate this site with that one ... kind of fun to run across, who knows ? :-)

That's weird! Did you notice its an Irish site? And not just an ie gateway.

FMP is owned by Brightsolid, who own many websites including GR, so it seems they duplicate posts onto other sites.
The sneaky thing is that if we want to use these other sites we have to pay another subscription !

It's a bit like Dating sites, you join one and appear on about 5.

It would have been nice if they had the decency to let GR members no that their post would appear on their other sites,

just shows that GR members opinions count for nothing as i cannot remember being asked about this

try clicking on a posters name on FMP. :-S

GR need to explain this :-(

Rambling

Rambling Report 25 Jul 2011 11:19

Thankyou for posting this Chrissie :-)

I wasn't surprised to see that there seem to be plans afoot to merge in some way, but I do think it would have been better of GR to inform us that our posts here would be lifted..

Yes anything we post is 'findable' by anyone via google...but you do have to have some idea of what to look for if you are not just looking at GR itself.

Would have been a nice thought if GR had said for example 'from 1st July your posts will be shown also on FMP boards we are developing'...or words to that effect.

That it is still in the design stage is apparent from the lack of posts on other boards...apart from a couple by ' design staff' I assume.

That's what I'm talking about Jiminy :-(
I wish they'd concentrate their efforts on making this site work - the issue over random discounts hasn't been admitted yet.

I deleted one of my posts on GR but it still appears on FMP - I don't need an explanation - but would this mean we are unable to delete our posts on FMP without paying?

Rose, I agree, it would have been nice to be informed but then courtesy to paying members has never been top of the tree with GR. :-( :-P

Has anyone suggested on the suggestions board that an explanation be given?

I am not a member of FMP it states on the board 'log in to reply' can someone please see if that does work? Unless I have misread it.

It'll do that for everyone Ginnie.

I'm wondering if Chris's thread on genealogy chat has been deleted?

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 25 Jul 2011 14:33

it seems to have been, doesn't it ?

I do think the site I found is just a development site, if you look there are a couple of posts from staff

it may be just for 'playing' with this site and possible changes ...
