I saw it Tabitha :-)

I enjoyed it, as I've always liked Emma Willis.

It was very interesting, but I wish the producers of the programme had educated her in Irish History before they sprung a certain story on her.

The poor girl could not grasp what had happened and obviously had no idea of the background of such behaviour. She was clearly flummoxed and upset.

But she cheered up with her Kirwan side. How amazing was that! :-)

Like Jem, Tabitha I also watched it.

I also found it very interesting.

I to wish she had a bit more insight with Irish history but such very
interesting ancestors.

If, like me, you aren't aware of any Irish connections, you only have a vague idea of the background but not the details.

One thing that irritates me when something unpleasant is found, is the way that its judged by todays standards. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

.......but he did go around to the Catholics house to hurt them - stabbed them, then tortured one of them!!

I have an ancestor, an ag lab, (Richard) who built his own house.
His neighbour (Cooper - higher in status than an ag lab) then built some sheds on Richard's land.
Richard went around with an axe to smash the sheds down, (not attack Cooper) followed by his servant.
Cooper answered the door, closely followed by his servant.
The two (female) servants got into a debacle, Richard managed to destroy the sheds.
When it came to court - Richard was exonerated.
His servant and Cooper's servant were bound over to keep the peace!!

Bit different to going around to harm the man!!! :-D :-D

Tabitha Report 15 Aug 2017 13:40

May be more interesting - think its starting to lose the plot a bit in the last few

I love the WDYTYA USA - i find it really entertaining - even if i have no idea who the person is.

Just seen one who found himself mixed up in the Witch trials and one who had extensive Amish background. Love it when they find themselves in the Civil War.

Also not a Lulu fan and agree Tabitha I am also
a fan of the American version.

maggiewinchester Report 15 Aug 2017 23:52

Well, as Lulu was named Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie, all Scottish names - though Lawrie is a Borders name, would I be evil to watch it only to find out if her family came from, say, Skegness?

Tabitha

Tabitha Report 16 Aug 2017 13:33

Wasn't it Ainsley Harriot who was expecting to find Slaves in his tree and was disgusted to learn he had a slave owner as an ancestor. One who had fathered a child with one of his slaves.

I could have got the wrong person of course - I know it was one of the early ones

Stranger things have happened -

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 16 Aug 2017 16:12

Maybe someone could help on this but didn't Lulu already
have her family tree looked into a few years back?

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 16 Aug 2017 18:14

Tabitha Report 18 Aug 2017 11:19

I have to admit - I fell asleep after all the endless talk about the time her grandfather spent in Prison - it was a very boring program - but i still have to see the end.

Not one of the good ones

Von Report 18 Aug 2017 13:55

Having read the comments I to watched WDYTYA on Iplayer.

Whilst not a great fan of Lulu's I found the programme interesting.

Having lived in Glasgow during the 1970s, when there was still a huge religious divide, it provided a better understanding of what was going on previously and the huge effect it had on people's lives.
For me it was interesting to see Glasgow now and I often walked to Rutherglen to do my shopping :-)
