Allan Report 31 Jan 2018 22:21

A few days ago our kitchen sink mixer tap refused to deliver any cold water. The hot water is fine.

The tap is a combined filter/mains tap with the filtered water having a separate outlet. This also stopped working.

The tap we have was only fitted four months ago and was a replacement, under warranty, for a pervious similar tap which packed up after three month's use.

We contacted the manufacturer who made various suggestions as to what could, or could nor remedy the problem, all of which involved messing about with the plumbing.

We the made several suggestions to the company which all centred around the fact that only a licenced plumber could do the work.

Fair enough, we are now awaiting a call from the plumber who carries
out warranty work for the manufacturer in this area.

Then last nigh I went into our downstairs bathroom, or wet room as it would be called in the UK, to find that it was living up to its name...water all over the floor. I eventually located the source which was the toilet cistern

It looks like we need a new toilet!

I can see two plumbers turning up on the same day and havoc being wreaked in the house, not to mention to the bank balance :-( :-(

I would say "it never rains but it pours" but that just might wind you up even more...

Good luck with the poor, underpaid plumber! *chokes*

Best to get the waterworks sorted in one go, though - but I can see chaos as one says 'It's your end', the other replies 'No, it's yours'. :-S
Good luck!!

the old saying that troubles come in threes certainly applies :-(

OH woke up this morning with vomiting and diarrhoea, sever headache and hot and cold flushes. At least her BP is down from 170/81 to a slightly more respectable 138/70. If there's no improvement soon, I'll be phoning for an Ambulance

I had a similar disaster a few weeks ago .fortunately with no flooding

I have a downstairs cloakroom as well as the upstairs bath/ shower room

I had a bout of the turkeys! so the cloakroom was earning its keep!!

Paid yet another visit and disaster it wouldn't flush. A phone call to my usual pumber late on the Friday afternoon and he wasn't able to come til Monday morning
Frantic jugs of water needed!!!!!

It's a wall hung toilet with enclosed cystem so takes a bit of getting into

So it was the enclosed internal flush unit that had stopped working and it had to be replaced
3 plus hours and £120 later we had flush again

Well, three works in progress!

OH retired to the bedroom after another bout of vomiting; woke up feeling slightly better and decided to phone our local GP surgery. She had an appointment within 30 minutes...a few years ago you would have to have made an appointment in March in case you were ill in September.

She was sent for a CT scan of the brain as the dr. was worried about the sudden onset of the headache.

After a bit of faffing around, in which I received a phone call saying that OH had to make an appointment, while OH had gone directly to the Hospital. Fortunately, the staff there were not very busy so the scan was done. Results in a few days
:-)

Then contacted plumber re toilet and he will be here next week.

Then an email from the filter people to say that their local agent will be in touch to repair the filter 'once the parts have been ordered'. As no one has been out to see the filter, I suppose a Psychic must be employed by the company.

The toilet and filter tap can go hang just as long as OH is OK :-)

Allan

Hope all is well with your OH, and that whatever it was was due to a minor virus.

and that the plumbings get sorted out

Allan

Allan Report 2 Feb 2018 01:15

Thanks, Sylvia. :-)

What surprised me was the cost of the CT scan, which I thought would be up in the high hundreds; it was actually $359.00, and we'll get about $190.00 back from Medicare.

I'll bet the plumbing cost for the replacement WC won't be that small :-|

:-D :-D :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Feb 2018 02:58

Do you have to pay for it, even thought the doctor sent you??

We don't pay for any such tests when referred by a doctor, whether a GP or specialist.

Allan

Allan Report 2 Feb 2018 09:28

Yes, we do Sylvia :-(

The only thing we don't pay for are any pathology tests, although two years ago the Feds tried to make them a payed service as well.

Some providers bulk-bill so that there is no cost to the patient, but OH was told that the Health Care card (Seniors) she had did not qualify her for the 'free' service :-(

Same with me when I see the Ophthalmologist as part of my diabetes review...I have to pay, yet to see the podiatrist does not cost me anything :-S

It's a weird and wonderful system :-D :-D

Allan

Allan Report 9 Feb 2018 02:57

Well, good news on all fronts :-D

OH is fine, although the Doctor still thinks that she may have had a very minor aneurism, but the CT scan was clear.:-D :-D :-D

Our mixer/filter tap in the kitchen will be replaced under warranty and that includes the plumber's bill.

Our downstairs loo has been replaced as well as one of the upstairs ones being repaired at a total cost of $643.50. I was expecting a bill of at least $1000 - $1500.

I think that I'll have a drink to celebrate.

:-D :-D :-D
