LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Jun 2025 16:51

The hayfever is very bad this year, I use eye drops to help it.

It has been incredibly hot here for the past two days. My sister and brother in law have been here for two nights. Yesterday we went to Harlow Carr Gardens in the blistering heat. It was very pretty, but I was glad to get home about 3 pm.

My sister then decided that it would be nice to go for a walk in the woods near us. She is absolutely crackers, I wasn’t going out again in that heat, so OH and her husband went with her. I wouldn’t care, but her legs are swollen like tree trunks, so the last thing she should have been doing is going walking again.

This morning, she wanted to go out again, so we went for a walk around a tree trail by the river, she liked that and it was only about 23 degrees, but by the time we had lunch, it was getting really hot, according to my watch it is 29 degrees now.

They have gone on their way now, they are going to a wedding near Aysgarth. The wedding is tomorrow, but she has no idea when because she left her phone at home and all the details are on a What’s App chat. She can’t remember anything, so hopefully someone else who is attending will be able to tell them. She is becoming much worse, so I hope it isn’t the brain tumour growing again.

It is very difficult, I try to be patient, but she just stands dithering in the middle of the kitchen asking what she can do to help. I ask her to do little things, but she forgets and wanders off. It must be so difficult for her husband having to look after her all the time.

Afternoon all

Wow some torrential rain here awhile ago so much so that we were trapped in the tunnel lol.

I dug up the rest of the potatoes and some were a decent size. Im thinking of planting some more as i have planted more peas and beetroot.

Bought 2 fuchsia's and have potted them into 2 big tubs as they will expand to 3ft by 3ft.
Have a Helibor to repot too but we ran out out of compost so will have to get some more.

Our wee poochie is home but her eye has an awful infection. have various meds etc and we have to bathe the eye several times a day. Will be going back to see the vet tomorrow and see what she thinks. Last resort is to remove the eye which of course would be terrible. So fingers crossed by tomorrow they is an improvement.

Hope the pollen count has down down for those that are suffering with hayfever.

Enjoy the rest of Sunday peeps whatever you are all doing.

Good morning florence and everyone.
If only we could even out the weather a bit, we could do with some of your rain florence Have you got a chair in the tunnel for when you get stuck in there when it rains?

Morning everyone, well it is much cooler today and we had some rain last night so plants are ok. The tomatoes have flowers on and the cucumbers are growing well. In fact the veg beds are doing well at the moment.

There is a new show starting on channel 5 tonight at 7pm -8pm. It is hosted by Jeremy Vine and is called Celebrity Puzzling. I shall record it to see if it is any good as I like Quiz shows but not keen on J.Vine. I did like Eggheads though but I think this will be different.

Take care all.

I hope that your dog is OK Florence
It was a lot cooler yesterday, so I took Esme to Lightwater Valley, I couldn’t have managed it in the heat of Saturday. We were lucky and there was only a small shower, although we did have a very big downpour in the early evening. That was good to fill up the water barrels. It was raining this morning as well, which was a nuisance as my sister brought me some perennials from her garden and I was wanting to get them in. I have been at the school reading this afternoon, so hopefully I can get the plants in tomorrow morning.

If anyone remembers Shaun from the Welsh thread, I got a letter from him this morning and he is fine. I had written to him because about a month ago, I got a Christmas card and letter from him. It was obvious from the letter that it had been written before Xmas. He said that it had been posted on Dec 9th, so goodness knows where it had been until it finally arrived a month ago. He said that he never goes on his computer now unless the family send him some photos.

That's Dunottar Castle, near Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire.

Are you away on holiday now, Florence?
(I can't be bothered looking back through all the posts to see if you mentioned dates!).
If so, have a great time!

EDIT:
No, I see now that you're not away until July.

Afternoon all

Yes it is Dunottar Castle AG. Visited there earlier in the year.

Yes away 7-18 Jul .Cant wait!!

Have been sorting clothes and other things to take so fairly organised now.

Was busy dusting and polishing today trying to keep up to date with chores.

Thanks agingrocker for asking about poochie.

Our wee poochie's eye is better and the infection much improved but.... not sure if that will save the eye as it has an ulcer in the middle which they cant remove. back to the vet on Fri to have a discussion about what happens next.

looking very dull here and rain imminent followed by gales and rain Thurs/Fri so not very summery up here!

Hope everyone else looking in is well today

I am fine thank you. It has just been a busy week.
I had school reading on Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning I went to the supermarket, then volunteered at the Memory Lane Group on the afternoon. Yesterday morning, I had to get the bus into Harrogate as I had an appointment at Specsavers because one of my hearing aids stopped working. Thankfully, they sorted the problem out. This morning, I went to my Slimming World group, then I went and collected Eve. She has already finished school for the summer , so I am going to take her out once a week. We went into town and had lunch, then did the tree walk again around the grounds of an old hall. A map has been produced showing you where all the specimen trees are. It also gives a short description of the tree with interesting facts about it. Eve enjoyed it which was good. The walk passed a training centre for special needs adults. They have a cafe and sell lots of their arts and crafts. They also do gardening and sell plants, so I bought some more perennials for the garden.
Tomorrow should be an easier day, I just have to go to Esme’s school bakery. I will have plenty of time to put the new plants in the garden. I also have lots of Lavetera plants which I grew in the greenhouse, they are ready to plant as well. I have more pricking out to do, so that will keep me busy.
On Saturday I am going to take Esme to Lightwater Valley, then it is Eves birthday on Sunday, so we are all going out for the day. That will be another week over and find with.
I hope everyone else is having a more relaxing time :-)

Afternoon all
Phew Linda! was out of breath reading all you have been up to. You are sooo busy. Hope you find time to put your feet up with a cuppa for 10 minutes this weekend.

Well we had great news about our wee pooch. The meds, our TLC etc have worked so far and the vet was quite amazed at how ell the eye has healed.
So no eye operation required today.

Such a huge relief especially as we ware going away and would have been worrying everyday for her recovery.

Its absolutely pouring hard so no watering outside required tonight yay!

May well leave the tunnel too as far to wet & windy to run across.

Hope everyone else looking in today is well & ok.

Good news about your little dog Florence. Our ( big ) dog has fully recovered from his dental op. thankfully and is completely back to his normal daft self.

Weather here is hot and everywhere is very dry, So plenty of watering to do here.

I have come down with a cough and cold and have been awake most of last night coughing and now have sore ribs . Hopefully it won't last long.

I had some money given me on my birthday so I have brought some ground cover plants and 2 new roses so am hoping they will do well.

Happy Birthday JustGinnie <3

Hope you enjoy your day and find some new plants with your money.

Wild and blowing a gale here so much so that i could hardly walk from tunnel back indoors. The wind nearly blew me over.

We are very excited to day because......our first cauliflower has a floret yay :-D :-D :-D

We were beginning to wonder if any of them would grow at all. The leaves are ginormous but up until today no show of the actual florets. So exciting times ahead.

Just waiting on Tesco now so cant start any other chores until after they have been.

Hope everyone else looking in is ok today

I have been to Lightwater Valley again today with Esme. It has been about 22 degrees with a mixture of clouds, then bright sun. It is very humid, but there is no rain in the forecast. I am glad to get home and put my feet up.
Tomorrow we are all off to York for the day as it is Eve’s birthday, Imcant beckieve that she will be fifteen, where did all those years go? She wants to go to the Jorvik centre yet again. I have been so many times that I could go without going again. We are then going to a new attraction The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring, that looks interesting. We are then going to an Italian restaurant for dinner.

I hope that you found some good plants Ginnie. Hopefully, your cauliflower’s will fill out Florence. We never had much luck with them when we had our allotment
